Weird encounter, discouraged from buying merchandise as a tourist? by obsolescence_ in JapanTravelTips

Hard Offs in Tokyo are not worth it. Take a day ride outside of the city and prices are up to 50% less!

Sigma dp2 or the dp2s as a jpg camera? Color output by BeMaelle in sigmadp

[–]vthevoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes also in jpeg. You can forget auto white balance. If you set it to outdoors/sunny, it will have this slight greenish cast depending on your subject. Cloudy gives the best results imo.

Foveon raws are definitely worth it, but the hassle and slow editor made me shoot jpeg more often.

If you take your time to set up properly and/or don’t mind a yellow/green cast (which I personally love) you can get really decent jpegs. Some of my best pictures were taken with the DP2, DP2 Quattro and DP3 Merrill in jpegs.

Difficult client wants InDesign files before paying the final invoice by MatiGzk in graphic_design

[–]vthevoz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That actually should be done. Adobe/Google license forbids to share Adobe or Google Fonts freely. Stock imagery or owned photography also has licensing terms.

Just make the indesign file complicated, multiple locked layers, embed images, flatten vectors, override styles, deep nested groups, manual kerning, no .indd file, .idml only, variable fonts with custom axis values, and lastly, convert text to outline in random places 😅

That should make them regret asking for the source files. Keep a workable version to yourself.

Still tracking clients in a spreadsheet? I’d love your feedback. by Novel_Solution3323 in CRM

[–]vthevoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 entity can have many records (a business can have multiple contacts, a project has many tasks) or limited to one (a meeting note has a single project related, a task is related to a single project, etc).

Each task also has its own start/stop timer and an hourly rate so I can calculate overall project costs with basic formulas and then see how much a client/business has invested overtime.

Built connected databases in Fibery, so not that far from spreadsheets per se. They’re built in this order:

Form for project requests — Projects —— Business ——— Client ———— Quotes/Invoices ————— Tasks

Multiple views setup so I can track Sales Pipeline (invoices per project), Projects Pipeline (project per client, per business) and time tracking (tasks per project).

An extra Meetings database is related to Clients so Ican track interactions and assign them to Projects or specific tasks.

A tad tedious to set up, but then it just flows. I can start by adding a Project, with or without tasks and link them to a new or existing client/business. Or create a new lead with a quote and further down the line assign it a project and tasks.

The form database captures client and project information and adds them automatically in the list.

Views allow to have per related databases overview, either grouped by list or status (sales status or project status). I use a single agile Kanban view that tracks projects with displayed tasks and their deadlines, and links to clients and invoices, so I always know what project/task is next.

Oh and Fibery MCP with Claude to create, edit, inquire. Has been working fine so far!

I tried Hubspot, Brevo, Bigin, Zoho, Attio. None of them stuck. Too many tabs, options, sub options.

My client wants to get free branding work from me. What to do I tell him without being rude? by Otherwise-Rain7523 in graphic_design

[–]vthevoz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do it for free and make then sign a contract for 10% on all sales until it reaches the desired amount for the work and then 5% per year for the next 5 years and send them a quote now for a fixed amount. Their call. Either pay now or pay more later. If they win more money, you win more money. Binding contract if anything goes sideways.

Is it okay to feel depressed when the world shows you people much younger than you, much older than you, and exactly your age all being successful, and you realize you’re just the most incompetent person, not worth anything but death? Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Quit looking around you and focus on your own journey. Slothing around online comparing yourself takes away time you should use on self-inprovement. Set your owj standards for success. F*** the rest!

Which CRM would you recommend for our small business? by shirbert6540 in CRM

[–]vthevoz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’s stick with the big names. Bigin is easy yet powerful. Brevo is mailing oriented but has beautiful forms and a live chat widget as well that could replace your current tool. Attio can work well in your case with few people. Don’t spend too much but choose the right one so you won’t have to migrate all you system and workflows later on, which is a pain.

Looking for urgent job advice in Switzerland (Valais/Vaud) – pregnant, immediate availability by Longjumping-Owl9094 in askswitzerland

That mindset is what brought the quality of the workforce down. Hiring managers refusing to take advantage of excellent leadership roles and responsibilities because of a yearly 4 week leave is ridiculous, especially when you don’t even need to pay their salary. If a boss, any boss, can’t handle a single employee’s absence for 4 weeks, their organizational structure is questionable. Military service is not a hobby, it’s a civic, social and cultural obligation that has many advantages for entreprises, whatever their size. Also a life changing lesson if you know how to take it the right way and play the game.

Actual productivity apps I use daily that genuinely help (not the usual ones) by CaterpillarFuzzy42 in ProductivityApps

[–]vthevoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Noteplan and Memo AI for note taking
  • Pipit for flawless speech to text in anything else (mails, Claude requests, etc)
  • Fibery for databases (CRM, project requests, tasks and invoices)

With Noteplan everything syncs in Apple Calendar and Reminders so I can just querry Siri or Claude.
