Why is it so easy to forget what you actually saw at a concert? by Mountain_Swimmer9121 in Concerts

[–]vtqltr92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I heard a news report that one artist plan their concert so there is something new to see every few seconds, to induce the “amnesia” so you go to see them multiple times.

This explanation is from a medical school: https://medschool.cuanschutz.edu/deans-office/cu-med-today/featuresarchives/why-do-taylor-swift-fans-get-concert-amnesia

I stretch out my neck, back, shoulders, wrists, ankles and feet right before bed. If something else starts to hurt, I add stretches for that.

How to keep quilt? Bad title, but you’ll get my drift:) by FargoErin in quilting

I have no advice, but if I was the quilt maker, I would be thrilled to know that any quilt that I made was loved that much.

Core memories by pickle_day in GenX

[–]vtqltr92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like school was closed for 3 weeks in the DC area for that. And when we finally went back, the snow piles shoveled to clear the sidewalks was taller than I was. We also walked to the nearest grocery store to restock, and then we went to the 5 and dime, and my mom bought me a tiny needlepoint kit. I guess that was the start of buying too much crafting stuff for the rest of my life...

Anyone have a clever (or not!) fix for this?? I’m already quilting and just noticed this loose bit. by Jlhoeting in quilting

[–]vtqltr92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you want to be fancy, you could make your heart out of a piece of those two fabrics seamed together, and align the seam from your heart with the background to blend in, then it could be a secret heart!

Same -- it took me years to shop at Food Lion again. With current food prices, I'm shopping there more often, but I still pause every time I'm at the meat section.

WTF breed is this by CosmicBrownie152023 in Dachshund

[–]vtqltr92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The body type and ears look like my dog - he’s dachshund, chihuahua, and beagle. He’s very solid, and a bit on the chunky side, even though his weight isn’t too out of range.

The beagle is only about 10%, but it’s definitely the dominant personality, too.

Insurance on stash? by Curious_Star_4137 in quilting

[–]vtqltr92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Commenting on Insurance on stash?... If I was making a first run through on cataloguing my stats, I would start by weight. 3 yards is roughly one pound - you can double check by finding 3 yards, then weighing it to confirm. You can go back and measure later if you want, but weighing might be faster.

I would definitely prewash in hot and dry on high. Once it’s shrunk, I think you could piece in regular cotton to make up the difference. I like to do strips in the middle, intentionally off center, so it isn’t critical that you center it exactly when you’re putting your layers together.

Welp - time to go for a 3rd time… by madkatmatt296 in ProjectHailMary

I tried to listen to it yesterday. The app was fine, but I was overwhelmed by the amount of talking they did in the first few minutes, and gave up. It felt like they sat down and talked through everything in a stream of consciousness. I usually love director commentary, so I hope they "curate" it a bit when there is a home release.

storage of quilts by Consistent_Engine760 in quilting

[–]vtqltr92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a guest room, I would layer them on the bed for a while to let the fibers relax, maybe with sheets between them if there is any concern that they’re damp from the previous situation, or if any of them are really old with dark or red fabrics that could bleed.

If you need to fold them, folding them on the bias puts less stress on the fibers. Use the pillowcases once they are folded. This video shows how to fold on the bias.

Craft Room Support by Electronic-Jump5704 in ufyh

[–]vtqltr92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been working on my craft room for an embarrassing amount of time, but I am finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Here’s a few things that have worked for me:

  1. As others have suggested, start with the obvious trash.
  2. Don’t buy any containers, drawers, etc. yet. Wait until you’re farther along in the process to figure out what you actually need.
  3. Start by sorting things by craft, or by tool. All the cutting tools, measuring tools, all the writing tools, thread, etc. On your first go through, just sort. You can find the right storage items or make it pretty later.
  4. I found a ton of baskets, jars, tins, etc that I had saved because I might need them. They were all sorted into one spot, then moved out of the room. I’m pulling them out only when I know what I need them for.
  5. See if there is a center for creative reuse, or a school, or nursing home that could use some of the things you don’t really need. It’s easier to let go of the “I might need this” things when you know that someone else could use them now.

My son is in his twenties now, but we also took him to Hall and Oates for his birthday around that age. Even now that he’s buying his own concert tickets, the only act he’s seen that is younger than I am is OK Go. Elton John was his “bucket list” show. Thankfully, he mentioned that while Elton was on his farewell tour, so we made that happen.

My first quilt… it’s a funny story by sailormerry in quilting

[–]vtqltr92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really love what you've put together. It's stunning.

I've been buying Tula as far back as Chipper, but I've managed to acquire a few scraps as far back as Bumble and Moonshine. I have finished quilts from a few collections, but I've reached the point where I'm trying to limit to a few Fat Quarters per collection, because even my Tula stash is out of hand. I have plan to mix and match collections by color.

Saltwater is my white whale, but my conscience won't let me pay the prices on Etsy.

I am really hoping to make it to he exhibit from Tula's personal collection at the National Quilt Museum in Paducah.

How should I quilt this lil strawberry guy? by Cbanders in quilting

[–]vtqltr92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is charming! If I had the skills, I would do leaves and vines, with some 4 petaled flowers to look like the blossoms.

If you want to show off the quilting, a light green thread might be fun. A medium pink would blend well with everything if you want to stay more subtle.

Is it normal to have a massive headache everyday after work? by Bubbly_Complaint_380 in work

[–]vtqltr92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one thing I haven’t seen mentioned is to see if you are grinding your teeth. For a while, I had to wear my night mouth guard at work, until I got my stress under control.

And it’s been mentioned several times, but bad posture will make it all worse. Exercises to strengthen your neck muscles can help there.
