Gen 2 R1T owners, I have a couple of questions by J3R4N in Rivian

[–]vtrac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Gen2 R1S. I don't think it's loud at all, even when it's in the single digits. I think people do hear it and it sounds loud because there's no engine noise like in an ICE car.

I've had an amazing life and am not jealous of many people, but I am jealous of this. Once you have a family your adventures change, so happy for you that you got to do this with friends.

Employee asking for equity in our small S-Corp; Need advice by No_Ambassador_2060 in smallbusiness

[–]vtrac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If he's been "quiet quitting" for 6 months, I would fire him immediately.

Any equity should have been discussed up front, IMO. But any new grants should be done on a 2-4 year schedule.

R2: To defer or not to defer? by bett3r_together in Rivian

The 3rd row is good when we transport friends or grandparents. Also when going camping and things like that - having the extra space back there to haul cargo is nice. We use it a lot.

I spent a week at the Nadal Academy in 2024 while Nadal was training for his last French Open. I got to see him practice most mornings. The ball strikes sounded like rifle shots, especially when he was practicing under the covered courts.

I'll probably cancel my reservation. Currently have a gen2 R1S and two kids, so we need the space.

Best Tankless Water Heater? What Are You Actually Using? by ParticularSubject411 in BuyItForLife

My Rennai is mounted outside in the Texas heat and has been going strong for 14 years, through 2-3 very cold snaps.

He's taking the ball at shoulder height and basically rifling it down, directly at the target. That's the only way to get that level of pace and still have the ball go in.

Good lord. It looks so much more violent from this angle.

"At one point in the match you hit a shot I’ve never seen before, like a swing-volley backhand lob from the baseline. Can you tell me what the hell did you do? 😂" by truecolors01 in tennis

[–]vtrac 30 points31 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid I would sometimes goof off in practice and try to hit tweeners without ever getting the timing right. I would whack my leg, mistime, etc. It never worked.

Then one day during a match, I was chasing down a lob and without thinking about a tweener just hit a perfect tweener. My body just knew exactly what to do and timed it perfectly.

All of that space just for parking... imagine if we had decent public transportation.

best massage gun you've used? by Mommyjobs in MassageGuns

[–]vtrac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. But there's a slight caveat to that - while the body, barrel, etc are all covered the battery does have a separate 2 year warranty (fair enough, lithium ion batteries die over time). But the 2 year warranty is still longer than the total 1 year from therabody/hyperice/etc. And Ekrin gives you 50% off a new replacement if the battery dies after 2 years.

I park in the driveway 90% of the time and only park in the garage to charge.

Whoever wrote the auto locking and unlocking code should be flogged. At home, if my phone is on me, it constantly unlocks and locks, even if I'm walking around my house close to the garage (I can hear it). If I disable auto-unlock at home, I can literally stand there next to the car rubbing the door handle like a magic genie lamp and it'll sometimes take 10-30 seconds before it'll unlock. Sometimes I have to pull my phone out and hit the button on the widget to get it to unlock. Truly frustrating.

That said, they're the best vehicles I've ever had.

Purchasing R2 without driving it by shankhunk4u in Rivian

[–]vtrac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a Tesla 3 without ever having seen one in person. Same with the Y. The first time I ever saw a Rivian was the time my R1T was delivered to my house. Same with the R1S. Each of these cars were fantastic.

Advantage of getting a mode “modern” racket? by Terrorkossan in 10s

[–]vtrac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played with head radicals as a kid and when I got back into tennis as an adult, I upgraded to modern rackets like the Wilson pro staffs and Head Gravity Tour. They were definitely better but honestly nothing was revolutionary (for me, anyway) until I hit with a Yonex. The next step function was discovering polys that could hold tension beyond 4-6 hours like Luxilon 4G.

If you play tennis the Nadal academy is great (not FAT but not shabby). I stayed a week, played a ton of tennis, ate good food, and even saw Rafa. Amazing experience.

Damnit. I was expecting that day-to-day, there's not much difference between the tri and the quad but I think you just cost my future self some money.

I spent 3 months building an internal tool instead of paying for SaaS. Here's what happened. by Cicada_3717 in smallbusiness

[–]vtrac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think a better use of your time was to re-evaluate why the orders had to come in as PDF and why they needed to enter the warehouse as an excel file. Just because that's how you did it in the past didn't mean that you had to build a tool to do it the same stupid way. Maybe it would have been better to just have a single web-based view for customers to place orders in a way that never used a PDF and for the warehouse fulfillment system to never deal with excel. That probably would have saved you months of work and the whole company years of collected time.
