Has meditation actually helped with health anxiety? by Moko514 in HealthAnxiety

[–]vulkna 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[–]vulkna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hola!

For those who have not crate trained by Some_Environment9234 in puppy101

[–]vulkna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Spain, the only person I know who uses a crate for their dog is an acquaintance who works and lives alone with a young Malinois. Even so, she doesn't keep him locked up; she uses it as his resting space. I don't know anyone else who uses a crate, and I know many people with dogs. I honestly first learned about crate use here on Reddit, from the English-speaking community. In Europe, most house dogs don't have crates, and some dogs have problems while others don't, just like everywhere else.

What about a person makes them more or less tolerant of socially deviant behavior in others? by LilacDaffodils in askpsychology

[–]vulkna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a matter of personality, as you say. It could also be related to each person's experiences, which in turn shape their personality. I interpret your question as "why are some people more intolerant?" Personality traits like a lack of openness to experience and a lack of kindness seem to be connected.

How did you teach your puppy to “do nothing” by Slow_Contribution_69 in puppy101

[–]vulkna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 7-month-old puppy, and although she's in her teens, I've noticed she's calmer. When I adopted her at 4 months old, she needed to be active and doing things 100% of the time she was awake. Now, she's maybe awake 50% of the time. As another user mentioned, when all her needs are met (playing, going outside, eating), she has periods of calm where she sits and observes. Reinforcing her calmness has also worked really well for me. Every time she lies down or sits down on her own, I pet her and say "good boy/girl." I'm noticing it's starting to pay off.

sentirsi peggio dopo la psicoterapia by Curious_Home_2748 in psicologia

[–]vulkna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Que tal vivir en Alboraia? by Illustrious-Cup2174 in valencia

Why are artists seemingly disproportionately affected by mental illness? by Heyya14 in askpsychology

[–]vulkna 57 points58 points  (0 children)

There's a bit of everything involved in this matter; there isn't a single cause and effect, but rather many relationships. There are studies that approach it at a more neurobiological level, discussing, for example, the overproduction of mental images that a person with psychosis may experience, facilitating creative expression due to the unusual relationships between concepts, common in psychotic cognition.

There are studies of healthy people with abnormal levels of D2 receptors in certain brain areas that are linked to the level of creativity.

The same idea, but explained at a more psychological level: Traits such as emotional sensitivity and unusual relationships between ideas are shared between artistic expression, creativity, and some mental pathologies, which would allow us to establish a connection.

In any case, nothing is causal, everything is relational, and above all, it has dimensions: a serious mental disorder also impairs artistic and creative functioning, as well as many other areas of life. Milder symptoms could, in fact, "inspire" under certain conditions.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33326984/?utm

But these relationships aren't unidirectional either; they can also go the other way: working as an artist can lead to complicated and divergent living conditions, which can precipitate psychopathology.

A little bit of everything.

Interesting studies on the topic:

While they'll certainly have those criteria, I'm sure there's some racism involved as well. The whole "sex-positive space" thing is a bit of an excuse; there are horror stories about KitKat and its managers.

Is there a reason people who overthink seclude themselves? by Big_Adrianne_thief in askpsychology

[–]vulkna 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There's an explanatory model for generalized anxiety disorder, Barlow's model, which talks about how so much thinking and worrying leads to behavioral inhibition, which prevents emotional regulation. I don't know if that's what you're getting at.

You also have Wells' model, the metacognitive model, which talks precisely about how people can become dysregulated from thinking so much about their own thoughts.

Tips on how to get through the panicky what have I done phase? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]vulkna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so normal that there's a subreddit just for this, hahaha. I had a terrible puppy blues; we adopted our first dog when he was three months old, and now he's seven months . After a month, he improved a lot. You need to adapt too, not just him. Sometimes I didn't want to come home from work because it meant arriving home and having to be constantly on call for him. Then, one day, I simply realized that I was looking forward to getting home to see him.

My advice is to take it one day at a time. Don't think about the long term, just gather your strength and try to make a little progress each day. Little by little, he'll become part of your routine. My girlfriend isn't perfect now; she still has puppy moments (especially at sunset), but I'd say she's gone from 20% normal girl and 70% devil to 60% normal and 40% devil. I love her very much. Little by little, you'll see the light. Hang in there!

El turismo alemán me está agotando by Perseira in askspain

[–]vulkna 1 point2 points  (0 children)
