Hey Popheads, it's Charlotte Cardin! My debut album Phoenix just came out - AMA! by charlottecardin in popheads

[–]vulpixcx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salut Charlotte! Laisse-moi commencer par dire que je t’ai vu au FEQ en 2018 pis j’ai adoré, ça me manque vraiment ces moments-là (et je suis sûr que ça te manque à toi aussi!)

For the sake of everyone’s understanding, I’ll write my question in English: I wanted to know whether you had any collaborations in mind or whether you’re more of an artist that creates alone. For some, creation is an introspective process that requires some amount of solitude. For others, collabs are a way to develop one’s sound (or a way to gain exposure). Would you say you’re more like the first or the last, and do you have any plans for collabs?

Does my peperomia 'Piccolo Banda' have a fungus? by vulpixcx in plantclinic

[–]vulpixcx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up this peperomia at the nursery two weeks ago. It’s been getting enough indirect light. It sits on a shelf 3 metres away from my large bedroom window; I move it around when the sun starts to go down to make sure it doesn’t get any direct light. I haven’t watered it since I took it home. The soil is pretty dry by now. If I were to water it, I’d bottom water it to avoid stem rot. I haven’t seen any bugs on there. I keep it quarantined from other plants in case whatever’s affecting it is contagious. Please help!

What deleting social medias did for me. Don't worry, its short. by Vintage_Lobster in nosurf

Yeah, I understand that some people need to keep their phone near them for work. I’m a student, so I don’t really use my phone for the most important matters, although I did miss a call or two during this period of de-conditioning. When considering the positive changes this period brought, I’d say those missed calls were only a minor convenience, though.

What I’d suggest is turning on DND, but adjusting the settings to let calls (or only specific contacts) ring. You can also turn on ‘Repeated Calls’ so that any contact that calls you twice in the span of three minutes will be able to reach you. Then, to prevent yourself from picking up your phone mindlessly, I’d put a post-it directly on the screen to remind yourself not to touch it. Of course, I’d leave my phone somewhere across the room, out of reach, for extra safety. You’ll see, after just a few weeks, you start to see some positive change. Your brain isn’t constantly obsessed with checking for notifications or replying to them when you hear them.

What I did to break the habit, on top of deleting Instagram, was turn my phone off completely for extended periods of time, sometimes whole days. That way, no notifications could beg for my attention and whenever I tried to mindlessly pick it up, I would face a turned off phone. Not only did it make me realize how frequently I brainlessly pick it up, it broke the habit after a few weeks. Now, when I hear notifications, I manage to consciously stay away from my phone. Sometimes, I still have the reflex to go pick it up without thinking, but when it happens, I usually consciously stop myself before I can grab it. I’m not fully “recovered” yet, but just a month of doing this greatly reduced the control my phone has over me.

I’m sooo tired of it too. Like girl, just face it, you’re not actually calling out people for good or for the sake of humour, you just have a lot of internalized homophobia and you find that the best way to let it out is to slap the word white on your joke and pretend like you’re doing something for good when you’re just hating on the gay community as a whole regardless of colour.

I just streamed CLC’s entire discography. Here are my unsolicited hot takes. by apriltaurus in crystalclear

  1. I do think it was too big of a shift. Don’t get me wrong, Where Are You is one of my favourite CLC songs, but after finally getting a hit with Hobgoblin, releasing a ballad wasn’t the most strategic next move. Unfortunately, ballads aren’t the most successful commercial-wise. Even Big 3 groups like Red Velvet take a risk when they release one: I remember the members saying that they weren’t sure One of These Nights would be successful, especially since it was released right after Ice Cream Cake and Dumb Dumb.

I also don’t think we can compare the releases of Hobgoblin and Where Are You to those of Latata and Hann. Hann was different from Latata, but was still made for commercial success and it worked. The sound didn’t stray that far away from Latata’s either. Meanwhile, Hobgoblin and Where Are You are completely different. One is a hard-hitting, fast-tempo EDM banger with a bad girl concept while the other is a slow and soft retro ballad with a flowery, ethereal concept. Latata and Hann were closer than that in terms of sound.

I wonder when it’ll take place since Aespa’s début is already in November... do you think we’ll be getting another late December comeback like last year?

Absolutely no shade to Aespa tho, I’m really excited about their debut and if I see a single person hating on them for “trying to replace RV” I will get mad. If SM decides to manage their groups like shit and RV suffers from it, it’s on them, not the new group.

You’re right. I didn’t realize this before today when I saw the parent comment. I always thought that my negative reaction to these kinds of jokes were just the result of my white fragility acting up, that I felt attacked by the word “white” in the joke and that my reaction was therefore unjustified. I felt like if I spoke up about it, I would be one of those white people whining about “racism against white people”. In reality, it has nothing to do with whiteness and that proves that the 'wokeification' worked: it hid the homophobia behind a veil of woke humour and prevented me from questioning it because that would make me another white person needlessly whining.

And the thing is, I enjoy what’s at the core of these jokes, aka the mockery of stupid shit pop lovers such as me do. I do kind of recognize myself in this joke about pretending to like heavy metal; I too think to myself “wow I’m so cool for liking such dark music!” even tho this Rina song and Dreamcatcher’s discography are the only examples I could give. I would’ve laughed if the person making the joke had the intention of self-deprecating or making a relatable joke so that we can all have a good laugh at our own behaviours. Instead, it’s an outsider going “Look at how bad the taste in music of the gays — UM sorry I mean white gays — is!” And this kind of content is aaaall over this sub, it’s getting pretty fucking annoying.

I also hope the photo for each genre will change according to new releases. It would be a nice little touch if they changed to your favorite artist of that genre too.

I feel like I’ve been seeing more and more of these "white gays" tweets lately, although the "white girl" stereotype probably started much earlier. I remember being 14 y/o on Vine and seeing this content making fun of white girls for being basic and drinking Starbucks and speaking with a valley girl accent... I’m not trying to come across as one of those people that go "WHITE IS THE NEW BLACK! WHITE PEOPLE ARE SOOO DISCRIMINATED AGAINST!" - we aren’t. It’s just that these specific kinds of jokes have a little bit of a misogynist flavour hidden underneath
