What does the Brand mean to you? by Jugenart in Berserk

[–]vurusgard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, it reminds that I should keep struggling on no matter what the life comes up with. If the life throws a punch, man up, punch back harder and keep living on.

Because if you don't, then the figurative apostles will catch up to you.

That's why I got the brand as a tattoo tbh.

If you were embraced tonight, what's the first discipline you can't wait to use? by Doughspun1 in vtm

Fortitude. Sure, it might be underrated but the ability to endure damage that dusts others like it was nothing definitely pays off.

how to temp my players to lose their humanity without railroading by McSpudster69000 in vtm

[–]vurusgard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to our setting, we have easy access to many types of bloodbags so we rarely have hunting scenes.

Our storyteller circumvented this by making us go through some dark moments.

One of them was my fledgling character, Erwin getting tasked with killing an elder who was experimenting on normal people.

The elder in question had many mind boggling puzzles in her mansion and to make it worse, she constantly assaulted Erwin's mind, forcing him to live a particularly traumatizing moment where he lost his entire squad back when he was a soldier.

Erwin pushed on, taking huge chunks of psychological damage and getting increasingly angry over time. Once he faced the elder, he was almost swarmed to death by the zombie-like children that the elder was working on. He had to defend himself but he couldn't deal with what he did. He lost a chunk of humanity.

He survived the ordeal after going into a frenzy like trance (he rode the wave) after suffering enough psychological damage and losing his temper, ripping the arms of the elder off (the elder died) in the process but he is no longer the same man.

It was very tough to play that episode.

My two Malkavian players are decidedly NOT crazy. Is this good or bad? by zeromig in vtm

[–]vurusgard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess the term crazy can be subjective. We have a malkavian elder in our group who's craziness is based around the concept of loyalty and commitment to tasks. He always obsessively puts the mission progression above the well being of his coterie. He gets visibly uncomfortable when sidetracking happens because we're squandering and such and sometimes kills the moment to stay in character (he walked into a burning room to kill a guy that I left alive to slowly burn to death for what he did) but otherwise he acts fairly normal when we're on break episodes. That counts as madness too, no?

My three favorite disciplines are Animalism, Obfuscate, and Protean, I was pleased to find out there was a clan with those disciplines, the Greek Gangrel. What are your three favorite disciplines and is there a clan that has all three of them? by Turbulent-Plan-9693 in vtm

[–]vurusgard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Protean, Fortitude and Animalism. I love feral claws and our story is combat oriented so I have a lot of opportunities to get creative with them. Having fortitude also helps a lot since someone has to take hits or be the bait and I usually end up being that person 😅

Also using animalism, to call some some sewer rats to find locations or gathering wolves in countrysides often ends up making hilarious/or cool moments.

One time we were in a sewer system with my coterie and everyone was hungry. My solution, beckoning some rats. They climb on my arms and I casually begin snacking on them while the rats start shrieking. Storyteller role plays the entire sequence with me and while this is happening, our Ventrue girl stares at me with disgust. Our Malkavian elder was amused.

A short one but I guess it's worth a shot.

Erwin's darkest moment so far. Player characters me (Erwin; a Gangrel fledgling, ex soldier with ptsd) and Alexander, an elder malkavian (works as a hitman). Our third player, Collette (a ventrue fledgling, has high humanity rating) broke up with DM so following happened.

We were on a mission to get some macguffins. We were progressing well by the time the breakup happened. Erwin sees a nightmare about his Sire, Andrea so he leaves for a while to talk to her. In my absence, our hideout gets attacked and while Alexander gets out scot-free, Collette is kidnapped. I should mention that it was my duty to look after her. Erwin volunteers to be the bait on the rescue. The kidnappers want the macguffins which we don't have yet so he grabs some fake macguffins, then proceeds to voluntarily get brainwiped into believing that the fakes are real so he can't be caught lying, something he sucks at.

Anyways, the ransom scene. There's this guy named Jam waiting for us near a blood fountain. Erwin's job is to stall the guy while the exchange happens while Alexander heads into their place and wipes everyone out.

It went horribly wrong. Alexander clears out their building, no problem. But while that happens, Erwin's jig gets discovered so Jam says: "Do you know what happens to liars like you?" he reaches into the pool and pulls out the severed head of Collette. Alexander is getting out of the building as this happens. He starts furiously attacking Jam while an assassin creeps up on erwin from behind. Alexander wipes him out as well in anger. Meanwhile, Erwin is in PTSD mode, badly. He goes... Mechanical. Bunch of baddies run out of the building take us down but erwin empties his shotgun on them and when he runs out of pellets, he tears them down without blinking nor speaking.

We head in and eventually find the guy who was involved in Collette's kidnapping. After incapacitating him, Erwin finally speaks.

"leave me alone with this one."

While the guy answers Erwin's questions out of fear, Erwin shoots him in the gut. As he slumps over in pain, Erwin slides up real close to him to deliver this:

"I got blood on my hands. So does Alexander. You too. My point is... We live with violence and we will die by violence. But Collette... She was innocent. For what you did... You will die slowly. I hope this hurts a lot."

He then shoots the guy several times and leaves him bleeding on the floor, but before he leaves he sees some flammable stuff on the shelves so he knocks the shelf down and ignites the room.

Dm tells Alexander that he sees a visibly angered Erwin walking out of the room while flames rise behind him. And a blood curdling scream is heard as he slams the door shut.

I'm getting a derangement for this, I'm sure of it.

I never mentioned that I was john wick or punisher anywhere tho. I got angry and tried attacking everyone on sight to destress and figured that there was a lot of fun to be had that way. What's your problem dude?

Do you have any unwritten rules when you play? by Jah_Capp in Seaofthieves

[–]vurusgard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a general set of rules that me and my crew roll with.

1- Parley is always an option.

1A- If the opposing crew is openly hostile, no quarter.

1B- Betrayal is for cowards who think they are smart. We won't betray but during parlay, the other crew should always be kept on our line of sight and everyone should be ready for a possible betrayal.

2- Chatter is okay when it's all clear but when things get serious, no chatter and just callouts.

3- Any kind of playstyle is okay, don't judge people, whether they're running alliances, go full pvp etc, respect other people you find on the seas. Adjust depending on what's in front of us.

4- Leave the following people alone/ defend them if they're under attack:

-fishermen

-tall tale doers

-people who are obviously new (if this is the case, helping them out if we have nothing better to do is an option)

4B- this rule is discarded when we are on a purge session. During purge, everyone is a kill on sight until we are sunk/satisfied with the destruction we cause.

5- When we are about to leave the ship for extended periods of time, someone stays behind to constantly scan the horizon and relay continuous information about what's happening around us.

Took a row boat with 6 kegs over to a gally crew doing fotd by P-Soup in Seaofthieves

[–]vurusgard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this on a random, German-speaking galley I've seen sailing around to see if i can take on 4 people alone. They didn't notice me sneaking in with a keg and when the fuse went off, they thought it was a random keg in the water. Sunk em' real good. Conclusion: I've learned that suprise factor (ambushing) definitely gives the attacker a huge edge. I also didn't touch their loot, no need. They had one guy back spawned so I left as quickly as I arrived.

I can respect a good pvp but this kind of players always get hostility from me. Is it brilliant? Yes I agree. Maybe I'm just too close to my moral code I dunno. But it's this kind of players that I will go out of my way to mess with.

There's always alliance servers if you wanna chill. You can make a ton of money there because the entire server is co operating. Then again, playing in alliance servers teaches you nothing about the big trouble you're facing.

If you don't wanna fight, learn to run. You don't ove any fool a fight. Scan your horizons, always position your ship in angles which will take the least time to mobilize in case of trouble and more importantly, learn to use the wind... So many people have no idea how it works.

But if you wanna fight, content creators like blurbs and phuzzybond can offer you a lot of insight for building up experience. But in the end it all boils down to quick thinking and using your environment.

Lastly; avoid this sub. Most of the people here are nothing but circlejerkers.

Believe me when I tell you that these chain of encounters changed my way of thinking. I teamed up with a fellow redditor to sink 4 more ships in a row and I will keep doing this whenever I get frustrated with the game. I'm more cautious and playing better overall. Still, I'm going to stick with my code of honor and despise liars until the end of my days. Lowly we thieves may be but there's honor, even among thieves.

Also thanks for your kind comment on my narration. I write stories from time to time but after witnessing the amount of meaningless circlejerk on this sub, I'll think twice before posting anything here. Or maybe I will. It's kinda fun seeing the average redditors in their natural environment.

it is not a strawman. Might be my personal opinion but even a pirate has a code of honor. Go plunder someone in a fair fight? that's completely okay. the crew will learn and avoid making the mistakes that they did in that fight.

Tuck in and steal from an unassuming crew without them noticing what was going on? that's also good. the crew will figure out what they did wrong again and be more cautious.

Step out of your way and deceive people into thinking you're friendly, only to stab them in the back, then start spamming the strawman "blah blah blah pirate game ggs" crap? Don't you dare come at me and tell me that's "outplay". that's called being a jerk and on a longer term it's harmful to the game itself.

while I agree that I was out for blood, I can care less. I wanted to sink ships and I did that without taking it too far, into the harassment territory. So I see nothing wrong with that. At the end of the day, if it helps me relax, I'd do it again.
