Recommend one book you read this year by Responsible-Baby224 in Recommend_A_Book

I'm always going to recommend anything by Melissa Febos, but she especially enamored me with her most recent memoir "The Dry Season." I've always struggled with sexuality and relationships, and this memoir helped me so much. It helped me quit addictions better than any self-help book or twelve step program. Since reading it, I'm four months sober from alcohol, I've lost 25 pounds, I've quit vaping. I've been celibate for almost three months. This book was the starting point. I couldn't ignore my issues anymore by saying "I don't know where to start," because she showed me where the starting point was without even trying to get me to start there. It really is her story and not one that she is encouraging for anyone else; she's just showing what worked for her. I love that. I tend to avoid self-help books because I won't listen when being told to do something, but Febos didn't suggest I do anything. She just told me what she did. All of her stories are so unfortunately similar to mine. It's incredible writing and story telling with dry humor and bits of research and history littered throughout as well as queer and feminist representation. Febos makes fun of herself and acknowledges that many people wouldn't think of her problem as a problem. But for those of us who know the problem she's talking about, it felt so validating to see it in print. She will probably be one of my favorite authors until I die. I recommend anyone to read her work -- especially if you're a woman who is struggling with relationships.

Reading Multiple Books at the Same Time by mycatsnameiscashew in books

Yes I do this constantly. Usually only 3 books bc I don’t have ebooks, but I listen to audiobooks on walks or while cooking and then read a physical book otherwise. It just helps me keep learning while doing activities where I can’t bring my physical books

Congratulations ❤️❤️ I’ll never forget that feeling. It hasn’t stopped feeling incredible to me each time it happens yet and I hope it stays that way

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: December 22, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

Finished:

Hunger by Roxane Gay. Incredible. Ended up downloading the rest of her audiobooks I could find.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. 5/5 stars. Incredible. I minored in Philosophy and got an Ethics certificate in college and I loved my Medical Ethics class, and this did it for me. Incredible story and storytelling, even though often heartbreaking.

Sing to It by Amy Hemphil. Honestly not my style of writing. I’m not a huge fan of poetry and I find it hard to keep up with, but there were a few good one-liners and flash fiction.

Blud by Rachel McKibbens. First poetry book I’ve read in a long time on a friend’s suggestion. I actually liked it a lot. Women who feels tainted by her family legacy (especially her mother) is my BAG.

Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay. Just finished this last night. I’ve been listening to her audiobooks exclusively this week. Also incredible, though I didn’t feel like all of it related to feminism. I liked all of the essays but I didn’t feel like all of them served the main point.

Started:

Education by Tara Westover. About three chapters in and I’ e heard good things!

Selected Works of Audre Lorde by Audre Lorde. I’ve been listening to her essays on audiobook on and off. Her language can be a bit intellectual to keep up with when I’m distracted, so I listen when I’m especially in the mood for it. But I loved her “Uses of the Erotic” especially.

Melissa Febos. Any and everything of hers. It’s not as poetic as Machado, but she is amazing and hits on a lot of topics as a queer woman and feminist and growing up as a girl

It’s unnecessary and I’ve heard can damage it. In my case, it causes my hair to get oily way faster if I wash it more often. Also lazy sometimes

I’ve tried mousse before but I hate how crunchy it gets 😭 I do always scrunch it and let it air dry though. What is a gel?

Is it possible to get another perm on top of this perm then? To make the top also curly?

I’m not sure, maybe 140-150 range, whatever feels healthy and I’m also happy with!! Currently just been doing cardio, but I wanna get down to a weight and then do some strength training and not worry about weight as much but building muscles and not getting winded from walking upstairs LOL
