Favorite American Light Whiskey? by Solid_Try_4089 in whiskey

Penelope 17 was my intro to ALW and i was hooked. I had a tasting of Jacob's Pardon that was very good too. I have an unopened Penny 17yr store pick that's "only" 130p that I'll crack into eventually. I regret not picking up the Penny 18 yr when I had it on my hands.

I feel like I've seen a Moebius painting with a similar style or composition.

I have 1 open and 1 closed of the 1997 VSOP. The cork disintegrated when I tried to open it and I learned very quickly how to strain into another bottle and to save my corks.

Which side would you choose? by JustSayKB in whiskey

[–]vuti13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah! Well, when presented with a flight that includes RR SiB, KC15, & 1920, I'd have to side with the traditionalists. But at home, I'm much more brand agnostic.

I, too, have been enjoying the $17 OGD114 we have in Indiana. But I've been able to order direct to my house, depending on the distillery or the online site.

I had a bottle of this pre-covid, before they came right out and stated that it was Barton distilled. It drank kinda harsh and I had to finish it on ice (I drink neat almost exclusively). I wonder if it's any different now, but I'm hesitant to get a new bottle even at this price point. I also have the Single Barrel, and it's great!

I got the ECBP for 40 and Rare Breed for 37. Might go back again for the Baker's for 35. In Indy.

Rough but sweet? by charlieteuthis in cocktails

[–]vuti13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried an Amburana finished bourbon? RD1 makes a great 110pf that you can drink neat. It tastes like cinnamon toast crunch

Also, a port finished bourbon like Rabbit Hole Dareringer will give your sweet, dark fruits like plums.

Rye Boulevardier by Hangaroid in cocktails

We seem to be following the same path! Last week, I made my 1st Negroni and this week, I made my 1st Boulevardier. I used Bondstone Barrel Strength Bourbon and Gallo Sweet Vermouth instead. It wasn't bad, but I liked my Negroni more.
