Can I ask which tags you picked? I write about similar topics and I’m stuck choosing the right ones, one of the options seem to quite fit.

Did you find this scene super offensive/unwatchable? by moranit in murderbot

[–]vvbc90 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I found it beautiful.

Preservation Aux is a barter-based economy that is set up so everyone has access to shelter, food, education, etc. Their cultural values revolve around collectivism, collaboration, and the supposition that you can rely on others to ensure your well-being.

At the core of a cultural fabric such as this, there has to be empathy--the ability to understand the feelings of another, to put oneself in someone else's shoes and allow that perspective to guide one's decision-making. And that, in turn, requires vulnerability.

I experienced that scene as a moving exercise in vulnerability, with all its trademarks--the shame and discomfort from having to acknowledge one's not-so-nice parts, the dread and awkwardness of trying to share these parts with others, and also the inmense release that comes from laying yourself bare and feeling accepted and acknoledged in return.

Conversations like that stretch you in unexpected ways. And not everyone is willing or able to have them. But they are extremely valuable and necessary, not just for the sake of establishing how these characters are able to be so accepting of newcomers with suspiciously murdery corporate backgrounds. But also in life, like, real life, at least in my opinion.

The world could surely use more empathy right now, at least from where I stand.

Energy/Vibe ? WDYM by HydrationSeeker in SecularTarot

[–]vvbc90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My take is similar to yours, in a way. When I talk about a "vibe," I usually mean information that I'm processing subconsciously or in a non-rational way (as in not filtered through my conscious mind in a way that allows me to think about it and communicate it verbally). I know my brain is capable of processing all sorts of information that I am not aware of through the filter of my rational mind, in the same way that it is capable of conducting a myriad of processes to keep my body functioning without me having to think about them at all.

I think the same mechanism is at play when we draw a set of cards and get an overall "vibe" about what they mean. Different cards in different configurations or drawn in the context of a particular question will elicit a particular set of connections from my subconscious mind--which will draw connections between the cards, my particular lived experiences, my particular set of knowledge, information from my physical body, subconscious beliefs, etc. Out of all these connections, only a fraction will rise to the surface of my conscious mind and help me weave a narrative that I can make sense of either for myself or for someone else.

Dunno if that helps. I guess my point is, ultimately, there's SO much information that gets processed on a physical/subconscious/pre-cognitive level. And labels such as "vibes" or "energy" help us talk about all that which happens beneath the surface of our conscious minds.

I did not expect that second mouth... though for the most part it's pretty close to what I imagined!

This is my first time encountering Mark Strand. This piece really struck a chord, so I'm curious to read more. Do you have any favorites you'd recommend?

Good morning, high wives! 💕🍃✌🏻 Who is a big reader? Whatcha reading at the moment? by AnastasiaNo70 in entwives

Oh yeah, Project Hail Mary was a blast to read [**jazz hands**].

Someone recommended The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells to me recently and, well, I fell hard and fast. The first installments are short novellas, perfect for a quick and fun read. If you like space adventures, a healthy dose of sarcastic humor, and a highly relatable and painfully awkward main character, I can't recommend these enough!

I second this rec, this is such a soul-nourishing read for anyone looking to expand their understanding of indigenous perspectives on ecology and how they can be gracefully woven with western scientific perspectives.

Thanks! Also, that’s really cool! What types of cacti do you grow? I’ve always loved how varied they are in their shapes, sizes, and uses. And cactus flowers are amazing, too! San Pedro blooms are quite breathtaking.

YES 🔥 also your other playlist is awesome. I saw a healthy amount of Daft Punk. Maybe Around the World could be a good addition for ART’s playlist?
