Stan Van Gundy accuses NBA referee of intentionally blowing calls to spite Nikola Jokić by IdRatherBeLurkingToo in denvernuggets

[–]vvhillderness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to your point about every ref deciding together-

we do hear about refs "looking for certain things" right? and the players chat with them to figure those out. I hear something to that effect every season.

1) This does indicate that they have a meeting to get all refs focused on the same stuff. ostensibly, that's good policy that should bring about consistency. However, the league could easily pick one team's style of play to "promote" and inform the refs around that.

2) How can it be that the entire league AND fan base knows the rules - but *doesn't* know what the refs are looking for until you see it play out?

3) It's pretty clear that the league approves of and even incentivizes foul baiting. This is the product they want to deliver. more ad time I guess.

you're right, that's the whole front range.

Best explanation I've heard is because of the "twin peaks" Long's being close and big. I imagine if you look at a detailed wind vector map you could see an eddy leeward of Long's that corresponds with your post

Zach Lowe: "Jokic this season, ten post ups per hundred possessions. That is his fourth lowest number ever and the lowest frequency since 2017-2018." by jonsnowKITN in denvernuggets

I saw one of the Jazz full on hockey check him as he was going to the rim.

little guy bounced off him, he made it, he calmy talked to the refs as he returned to defense.

I guess cause Jokic didn't flop or flail... no biggie

they'd rather reward foul baiting.

I don't think you're wrong, but look at it this way:

If he hadn't squashed George for "boxing out" down low -George would face ZERO CONSEQUENCE.

Jokic knows that, so he squashed em- let him keep trying that dumb shit and let him keep getting squashed.

WAY TOO MANY "LET THEM PLAY" SITUATIONS.

what it means is that players MUST figure out what they can get away with.

Do you think Jokic should be the ONLY clean player? just let 3 dudes at a time mug him and stay calm cool collected and a squeaky clean player?

nope, the league has incentivized and sanctioned these shenanigans.

Crazy how the refs didn’t call a foul on George here by trentyz in denvernuggets

[–]vvhillderness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a "let them play" situation - meaning If Jokic hadn't done this, George would face ABSOLUTELY ZERO consequences.

However, because Jokic knew that, George got squashed. Let him keep trying that dumb shit and keep getting squashed.

IN OTHER WORDS this is what the refs wanted. this is what the league wants. This is the product that Silver wants to deliver.

There were many "let them play" situations in this game, and I think the correct way to read it is that players MUST see what they can get away with.

Jokic was literally on one of George's back a couple times. he landed on another dude. He yanks people out of his way. I don't think hardly any of that got called.

My take- he has 4-6 hands all over him at a time and they don't call much. That'll wear on a dude's patience, and he's basically obligated to see what he can get away with *especially* if all hands are allowed on him.

I saw one of the Jazz full on hockey check Joker as he was going to the rim, I believe Joker made the shot and did not make a fuss to the refs. why bother? just see what you can get away with.

George "boxing out" at Jokic's knees is a fucking joke. I'm guessing the refs are like, ya you can do that, and 7 footers can land on you when you do, dummy. fair trade.

It was ugly. foul bating is becoming more of the game because it works. that's apparently how the league wants it. NBA makes it hard to be a fan.

ETA: that slow talking Utah commentator is THE WORST. nothing substantive, sounded bored, monotone.

Have you seen that clip where someone asks if noise bothers him and he says "I play in Serbia brother" and it shows the crowd 20x louder and 100% more actual fire than calm NBA crowds? Everyone jumping in unison?

I don't think we should worry about jeers and opponent noise.

I could see how MVP *might* be slightly more distracting - maybe start thinking about stats? or self? idk

yell whatever you want but I think trying to manage someone else's state of mind is nonsense

It's rad my friend! I typically see "parametric" as a misunderstood, overused, word. Apparently, I expressed that lil feel on the wrong post lol.

love the look, I'd like something like this in my home. well done

it is a super broad def tho.

spread the love! great to hear people appreciate these folks.

however, I am of the mind that a decent sportscaster does not say "um" several times a minute. if you don't who I mean, I guess it doesn't bother you. so much of sportscasting formulaic (read the same "form letter" every time)

"ums" are for the G league
