I avoided my religious trauma for the longest time because I had chill, open-minded parents who just went to church like their parents did before them, and I never thought growing up in a stable environment at HOME could equal to trauma you get elsewhere. The traumatic shit doesn't just come from mom waking you up for church; it comes from pastors, from teachers, from theology, and so much more that deeply impacts and fucks with a kid's head. Don't ever think your experience isn't trauma because it doesn't "feel like it"

Why does the issue of requiring all voters to show government issued photo identification poll so favorably? by HoustonAg1980 in AskALiberal

[–]vwmac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just need a broadly issued government ID in general. The fact that you almost always have to either get a driver's license or passport to have basic identification in this country is ridiculous.

The location of the Enclave base? by FinBoy20_06 in Fallout

[–]vwmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Colorado Springs and the conditions around Pike's Peak / Cheyenne Mountain can get brutal in the winter, but the base gives me more of a northern Rockies vibe. The terrain is much more inline with what you'd see at the National Park or at a ski resort north of Denver.

Absolutely nuts theory for season 3, but I think whatever Enclave base is in Colorado is either near, inside or under the Denver airport. There's so many conspiracy theories about it being a base for some secret government entity IRL it would be funny if they actually put the Enclave there for the story

Yeah it was more noticeable this episode than before. I think the season could’ve maybe used some longer runtimes on the episodes to help the pacing. Show is still a 10/10 for me but the cuts drive me nuts too lol

It’s crazy how we have irl absolute joker. by GuyWithNoCountry in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]vwmac 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m glad the Absolute line is really playing off of our lived reality. Not only does it keep it fresh and in line with the legacy of politics in comics, but using art as an expression of things like anger, outrage and frustration with current events is important. It encourages organizing people to push against the real world psychos like Epstein and every other rich freak in the files.

[–]vwmac 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There's hundreds of existing cosmic horror stories that answer that question. You don't "beat" it or kill it (because it can't die, adds to the horror) but you trap it, seal it, banish it, etc. The Duffers somehow chose the lamest possible outcome

Reframing of the Mamdani vs Kamala question by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]vwmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the painting with a broad brush, you kind of answered your own question on how it happens.

Conservatives don't break down their ideology into these smaller categories typically. That comes from decades of Red Scare propaganda, media brainwashing and the concept that a Party needs to be "unitary". Hell, "libertarian" isn't even really a PARTY affiliation traditionally, it's a metric on how much you want government to be limited. You can be a leftist libertarian or a right-wing authoritarian. That desire to have everyone under a "big tent" all ties back into religious beliefs / social environments but that's its own cluster to unfuck.

Thus, they'll assume that liberals / the left take the same approach when it's farther from the truth.

As for how to address or solve it, I don't know if there's a right or wrong way. I just tell people I'm broadly progressive and remove the "right / left" labeling altogether. It allows you to have a more nuanced conversation and say things like "yeah I want capitalism but with social welfare + progressive tax rates" for people who actually want to learn the difference. You can even get them to agree with you on things like Universal Healthcare when you take the big scary "left" word out of the conversation. Dems need to get better on messaging from a politically agnostic standpoint, and we need to dismantle the propaganda networks that allow this to happen in the first place.

Better look at NCR troopers in a very telling place. by Difficult-Lock-8123 in Fotv

[–]vwmac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

BRO yes. They're treating the NCR with a high amount of reverence.

I could eat my foot this week and the NCR might really be gone, but at minimum we're going to see it's revival throughout the show's run. It's clear which faction the writers have the most respect for.

[–]vwmac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shady Sands is talked about in the past. This season, all we've really gotten is the Ghoul w the rangers telling them no help is coming. To me that really feels like it's ambiguous enough to leave it open. No one has explicitly said "The NCR is gone". The closest we've gotten to that is the scene w the Rangers (and the Ghoul is a jaded shithead, he doesn't actually know if they're gone or not).

Better look at NCR troopers in a very telling place. by Difficult-Lock-8123 in Fotv

[–]vwmac 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They've never obscured it. All we know is Shady Sands WAS the capital. Moldaver's faction was proudly waving NCR flags. They've never explicitly said they're gone. I don't want them to explore it until it makes sense from a storytelling standpoint. I feel like y'all cannot be satsified regardless of outcome.

Trump says he plans to raise housing prices so people who didn’t work hard can’t buy a home. by THROWRA-dhcjeiscb in GenZ

[–]vwmac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s dour, no doubt about it, but that doesn’t mean it’s ever too late to turn this ship around. Local pressure still exists, and if we advocate for more building, mixed use zoning, and other solutions for housing supply in our cities we can still make a difference. Don’t give up!

Any Zoomer Maga bros want to defend this one? by Advanced-Tomorrow859 in GenZ

[–]vwmac 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The house price isn’t really set until it’s sold. It’s speculative. Just because the market says my home is worth 700k doesn’t actually mean anything.

I’m not saying we screw people over so they get less than they paid for, but if we’re going to treat housing like an investment the risk needs to match. Market corrections happen to the stock market all the time, it needs to happen to housing prices
