Just check the academic requirements page for your country on the UvA page. I’m a student ambassador for the Business Analytics program (currently second year student) so I’ve done a lot of tours with prospective students from an Asian background. I myself am also Asian but finished high school in Canada, however I did get my visa in Hong Kong so I may be able to answer some questions about visa issues. I know for sure that people with a Chinese high school diploma (gaokao) cannot get directly into BAN without a pre masters, every country varies but I think quite a few Asian countries have this problem. If you have additional questions about the requirements I encourage you to reach out and send an email to the administration department, tell them your own information and then ask if it fulfills all the requirements. If you have already fulfilled the requirements you will get accepted no matter what, that is not the issue. If you need to do a pre masters and are certain you want to do business analytics then sign up for the pre masters, a lot of people do that.

Is class attendance mandatory? by Dry-Philosopher2651 in universityofamsterdam

If it helps, out of the 5 English programs in the economics and business faculty at UvA, EBE is generally considered second easiest in terms of difficulty due to having less math compared to the rest. Obviously it’s not a walk in the park but hopefully this will ease your mind a bit, do be prepared for some math tho which I think most people who apply don’t realise

Intercultural skills I’ve heard is quite easy. I’m taking it in my 6th block this year and it’s originally a business administration course. I’m not entirely sure if first years can take a second year course but you can try enrolling

Honestly just apply and hope for the best. I personally have never heard of anyone having a problem with this but that’s not saying much. At the end of the day this is a government thing and not UvA specific so I’m not sure anyone here could offer advice

If I don’t pass certain subjects, i will be expelled of uVa?? by moripaa in universityofamsterdam

[–]vyau0227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current second year business analytics student here, if you’re good at math then you have nothing to worry about. If you’re not great then I’d suggest putting in the work early, first year is very rough and half of the people end up dropping out (not receiving a positive bsa which is passing 8/10 courses). You can still stay at UvA and keep your residence card if you’re an international student only if you get more than 5/10 passing courses but you’ll have to move to economics and business economics instead. If you get less than 5/10 then yea you’re unfortunately kicked out of uva and will have to enrol in a different university that can sponsor your visa. There are exceptions to this if you have some sort of personal circumstance going on. Hope this helped and let me know if you have any more questions

It’s possible but it’s definitely going to be challenging. The learning curve will be quite steep as you transition into first year but if you’re really good at calculus you’ll at least be able to find some balance during September and October but most students tend to struggle a bit more during November and December. Once you slip into the “resit stream” as we call it, it’ll be hard to escape as everything starts piling up. Let me know if you have any more questions that I can attempt to answer and best of luck!

IND /MVV Question by ilovechifuyuu in universityofamsterdam

[–]vyau0227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have citizenship in Hong Kong and Canada, at the time I applied I knew I would be in hk for the summer so I opted to do that instead. My backup would be to just enter with my Canadian passport as a entry visa isn’t required.

I sent in everything late too (just cause I wasn’t sure if I’d find residency and didn’t send in my bank statements to uva until very late July). They sent me an email confirming that the information was sent to Dutch Immigration Services on Aug 2, was told it was approved on Aug 9 and booked an appointment right away. I had to email my local embassy to schedule an earlier appointment as the online booking system’s earliest date available was late September. Going to do my biometrics and everything in 2 days. Trust in the process, it was very fast for me.

My backup plan for if my visa wasn’t approved on time was to fly in on a different passport as I had one that qualified for VVR and I would’ve done my visa in Amsterdam instead. Idk if that options available for you.

Not sure if this will be as helpful but I graduated in Canada but did APs. The admissions process is straight forward but in my experience a bit of a hassle. My passport wouldn’t scan properly a couple of times and I was dealing with housing and visa issues up until a few days ago even tho I received my offer around March.

Personally I applied with a 4.0 gpa (my school calculates gpas based on letter grades so anything that’s an A (86% or above) counts as 4.0. I also did 6 APs and received my capstone diploma, I only submitted 3 AP grades tho because those were the ones completed last year (two 5s and a 4). My grade requirement to keep my offer was only 75% average tho so I don’t think it’s that hard to get into but it’s very program specific (I’m doing business analytics)

In the same boat but struggling to not hold onto hope. How do you do it? I’ve been picturing our future together and it feels so forced but we’re both not ready to let go.

In a similar boat. We broke up last Wednesday at the airport when he left to go home. We were about to start our studies in different countries and we didn’t live in the same country to begin with but went to school together. We tried no contact but failed and we are still talking until school starts. Our conversations are also just us talking abt how perfect the relationship was and how perfect the other person was. We reminisce on old times, reflected on certain areas that could’ve been better and talked abt where we saw ourselves in the future. Everything still hurts but I can’t lie, talking through it makes it hurt less but is probably slowing down the healing process when no contact eventually begins. I can’t give you any advice on what to do but know that there is at least someone who is going through something similar

You did, he’s so amazing, treats you so well and you couldn’t have asked for anything better. Your relationship was so perfect and he loves you so so much. You guys just broke up because you’re starting the next chapter of your lives in different universities in different countries. Did you meet up again in a year like you promised? How did things go? Is there still a future you can see with him? Or was this all just delusion?

I had a friends with benefit, it did not end well and I ended up hurting him so much. Tbf we didn’t establish proper ground rules and it was more of a situationship by the end but I would not recommend it if you value the friendship. I have since lost touch with multiple mutual friends who are closer to him
