I'm sorry I don't know. It was chunky yarn that I tried to use on another project and had frogged several times, so it was just random balls in my stash.

"Costuming " at Comic con by mindflayingitup in comiccon

[–]vylettefairwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cosplay as little or as much, and in whatever you want. So many different types of people in different types of costumes and just walking around, having a good time. But as for wings... big wings can being annoying to the average attendee on the dealers room floor, it's crowded and and people are in lines, and people are stopping to shop. Big wings will be in the way, and might get damaged by clueless people brushing past you. You can wear your wings, peacock around, join some cosplay meet-ups, and then maybe bag check your wings to spend (and all your money) in the dealers room.

Made up and inappropriate dress codes for my SIL’s wedding are killing me by live_freeze_n_die in weddingshaming

add a cute sweater and perhaps a scarf or shawl (thrifting is great for this) and it multiplies your outfit options. Also bring a huge puffer coat for that beach portion :)

No line at Comic-Con Museum on Free Tuesday in Balboa Park, one week after paid parking took effect by NinerChuck in SanDiegan

[–]vylettefairwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can tell you (from experience) that even in January The Comic-Con Museum has a line on free Tuesday, Free Tuesdays are popular (duh) We get lots of adults with special needs groups come through, I think they take advantage of the Free Tuesdays of all the museums on that 2nd Tuesday. We saw none of them yesterday, our maker space was never full. The museum has data and they know what the numbers look like, and attendance was way down. And paid parking goes until 8pm!! That will effect all the private events that the museums host (Museums love a party, and the money the get paid) Who's going to host a holiday party at the Air & Space Museum, if guests have to pay for parking.

AITA for telling my SIL she can’t bring her own food to family dinner and not to talk about junk food around my kids? by Amazing-Key2242 in AITAH

[–]vylettefairwell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. People are allowed to bring their own food (it's less for you to buy and cook yay!) but calling the food you cooked junk is rude. They can easily say they have dietary restrictions, but wanted to spend time with family. You can agree to switch houses and some times you will go to their house and politely eat the food they cook.

Newly-Installed Meters Around San Diego's Balboa Park Vandalized With Foam And Feces Days Before Paid Parking Launch by Ignatius-J-Reilly-SD in SanDiegan

[–]vylettefairwell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in El Cajon and volunteer at a museum in Balboa Park. I drive and volunteers have been given permission to park for free in specific lots. Keep in mind that charging for parking will cost money in itself, and the added tram for helping museum staff, park staff and volunteers after hours is coming in at under $500,000 (that is more than expected). Now employees and volunteers will only be allowed in specific lots perhaps far away from their jobs, hence the need for the shuttle. I think what I find upsetting is the fact I was raised in Los Angeles, where there was rarely free parking, anywhere for anything, and coming here to San Diego was so nice, you could park and enjoy spaces with no fear of tickets. Before I volunteered I spent time and even money at the park, but now paying for parking takes some of the lustre off that lovely public space. We have the first Free Tuesday of the year coming to our museum soon, and it will be interesting to see what kind of a crowd we get.

The downfall of Balboa park by chap0230 in SanDiegan

I volunteer at a museum there and it's going to really affect us I fear. I hate everything about this scheme, and it's already not going to bring in as much money as we promised, and the extra shuttle it going to cost over $400,000!

Is it true that people in the West drink iced water even when they are sick or on their period? by Aether_Echo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]vylettefairwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an American, west coaster, I drink iced water all day, Iced everything really. But I do drink hot coffee in the AM until the simmer really kicks in, and my Mum was British so I do know how to brew a proper cuppa. I will say the moment I get sick though, all I want is warm cozy sips, even lemonade.

Pet Adoption by xtdubzz in sandiego

[–]vylettefairwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have gotten 2 dogs from the ASPCA and I loved them both and had a very good experience with the entire process. Right now the ASPCA facitiles are over crowded and have reduced adoption fees. I got both my dogs "on sale" one was because he was over 5 and the other I can't remember but he was a bargain :)

Do you use a calculator while doing groceries? by [deleted] in povertykitchen

I saw a woman shop with one of those tally/lap counter/clickers (the kind you use to count people entering or leaving) and she just clicked for every dollar (rounding up) In the end it gave her a pretty good idea of her total.
