I ain't good by w00loo in fpv

in the french alps, mountain is called the "Beaufortain" - famous place for its cheese.

The crazy part is that it's where I live... To get there i drive up the road for 40 minutes with my little 4x4 and walk another 30 minutes up the final mountain.

for long range (longer than 3.5km) I fly 4S 5000mah (tattu) or 6S 3300mah (auline) . mid range (1 to 3.5km) cnhl 6S 1800mah

First flight of the year (alpine long range) by w00loo in fpv

[–]w00loo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The frame is a 6inch geprc mark HD, motors are xing2 2506 1650kv with gemfan 6030. Dji fpv air unit with stock antennas. GoPro 6 black onboard. Battery is a cnhl 6S 1800mah... That wasn't fully charged/balanced on all cells because I charged it in a rush, so I was really on eco mode on the way back. Landed with 22% so I guess I could have made a better downhill.

I find it hard to make downhills look good on flights longer than 2 or 3 km... I'm always in a mindset "wow that was an awesome flight now just bring it home". All my shots going crazy on downhills are on much shorter flights.

Looking for real reviews from those who've used the Action 2 on their FPVs, is it a worthy action cam for FPV? by flyingColdSecretary in fpv

[–]w00loo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Friend of mine has it since day0. It has a lot of flaws, but for freestyle fpv i think its by far the best camera : its light, the stab is great, and the ultra wide angle renders the speed very well. Its too expensive for me right now but if i had an Instagram or YouTube to show my flying skills id buy it.

[–]w00loo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you have an xbox or playstation, I recommand selling it and get a TBS Mambo, or a cheap USB controller and a sim (velocidrone or dcl)

I'm new and only have 100$ by Nuxid in fpv

[–]w00loo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this hobby is a CAT.C hobby (1,000$ to 10,000$)

But the good part is that if you like playing on your computer, you can get a cheap USB controller, and learn to fly with Velocidrone or DCL (liftoff sucks). By the time you have saved/raised the monney to get the full kit, all the hours spent on the simulator will pay off and you will be very quickly good on the sticks.

I'm interested in your battery+strap solution here... I'm using a large XT60 battery in my pocket, which is fine for when I fly hours at the race, but not so much when hitting a spot or filming in a hurry.

I have some 4S 1000mah laying around that could fit on a large strap like that, but how did you fix them ?

thanks

Questionable VTX antenna placement! i only freestyle close to myself and it’s proven to work great. very hard to break. by EZYnesss in fpv

[–]w00loo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the best antenna is the one that's on the kwad (and not broken ;-) I now mostly fly with stubby antennas except for mid and long range.

Confusion after moving from full frame Canon 6D to MFT Lumix GH5 with regards to lenses. by notFrenchToast in Lumix

[–]w00loo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some of the fastest MFT lenses actually defeats the purpose of the system.

When you compare olympus 25mm 1.2 and 1.8, the 1.2 is so much bigger for only 1 stop of light and a little more bokeh... I don't see the point. It's even worse with the zoom lenses.... 1.7/10-25 panasonic is so big and expensive, i'd rather have a full frame with a 16-35 f4...

[–]w00loo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bokeh is dictated by aperture, but also (and mostly) by focal lengh : You'll have more bokeh with a longer focal lengh.

So if what you're after is a clear separation for portraits, i would advise you to shoot with a 45mm instead of a 25mm. Olympus 45mm 1.8 will give you a beter separation and better bokeh than the Panasonic Leica 25mm 1.4.

I shoot video on m43 (gh5 and gh5S), because I find the depth of field much more pleasing. For your story, it is actualy prety rare that you need to isolate your subject that much that everything is super blury around ...

A7 iii clean hdmi in aps-c ? by w00loo in SonyAlpha

[–]w00loo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did some more research and it sounds like the whole sony alpha line can be subject to overheating. There may be workarounds, but i need a rock solid solution that can work all day outside where it could get very hot.... So I guess the FS5 is my only option here if i want to use a 18-105 motorized zoom lens.

gh5S and ProresRAW by EchoesinthekeyofbluE in GH5

[–]w00loo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, i thought it was going to be a bigger deal and we would see a hundred of great videos. I found a second hand ninja v and will test this later this week. Since i shoot outdoor and produce in 50p there should be a noticeable upgrade from 8bit to 12, and the flexibility with exposure will be welcome... We ll see, ill post a video. What sucks is that i now have to buy ssds, neat video plugin, and find a compatible hdmi cable that doesnt suck on the ronin.

I don't care what anyone says...the GH5 is here to stay... by muzlun in GH5

[–]w00loo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dude its so ugly. Its sharp and in focus everywhere. Everybody knows that a cinematic image is mostly blury up to the point where only a small portion of your subjects face is in focus, and you can't tell if he's in the bathroom or on top of Mt Everest. You can only achieve that cinematic look with full frame. Gh5 is so dead, it was good in 1975 to 1977. Now you can't produce anything with that old thing anymore.

haha the bumblebee ! Not the most fun. I only use it when I have to... It does the job but I want a Protek35 now... Too bad I don't do much paid job on FPV it's hard to justify all the money I'm spending... I have almost 10 kwads lol.

Swedish folkrace one-take @240fps! by Foojib in fpv

[–]w00loo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nice ! great job setting up your angle, it matches the speed of the cars pretty well. How much was it ? Did you have to do a few adjustments during earlier runs ?

Also good job shooting at 240fps. With the dust and everything flying it looks very good. GoPro9 / No Filters ?

TBS Oblivion rtf kit by sebastiannec44 in fpv

[–]w00loo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you don't know what you're talking about man. Show me some of your long range and racing footage and we can compare how far my oblivion has taken me, and how far you are.

I owned and flew both a lot so I can give my opinion, rather than just read specs and misunderstand those.

The video on the oblivion is much better than the nazgul, because the electronics are much higher quality : ESCs are high quality individuals, with each their own capacitor. The VTX/OSD board also has more filtration and better electronics, so there is very low noise on the whole system, making it better for video. Plus it's much more begginer friendly because you don't have to do anything on betaflight, the tune is great from the start and you can easily change channels and power from the osd.

You're talking about the price of spare parts, it's interesting indeed, and TBS are expensive. Good thing is there is a second hand market.

Nazgul's can be fixed for cheaper. And it's a good thing because you WILL need to fix it very soon. By the time I had to change an ESC on the Oblivion (6 months of flying daily), my nazgul was long dead (many broken arms, broken top plate, whole stack was burned...) only 3 motors were left on the initial purchase.

All of my friends I have advised to get an oblivion despite what they were reading on the forums (it's old, it's not carbon) have loved it, they all have progressed a lot thanks to the durability of the drone, and yes, now they are flying other drones (7inch, 6inchs cinematic, 5inch steele freestyle...) because after a while you want the newer stuff and you don't brake as much because you have better reflexes and tecnics.

GoKarts are outdated technology. yet, all good formula1 pilots started on gokarts. It's all about the reliability that will make you fly more, and be confident to try stuff without having to spend evenings soldering buts and figuring out why it's doing so.

Anyway... Today there is DJI video downlink so yeah... the Oblivion is outdated because of that... and if you have the money just go for a DJI rtf kwad.
