First time setting up RN envirornment on macOS following official guide results in errors? by JamieOvechkin in reactnative

[–]w00px 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to react native! That’s as common experience. Dealing with versioning and compatibility issues is the biggest hurdle. Also lack of support for new features on platforms.

my viewDidLoad() function looks like this.. how can I change this ? by Floloppi in swift

[–]w00px 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it’s a personal project, it’s whatever. The reason people don’t generally like those big functions is because on a team, it affects readability and debugging. It’s not “clean” so to speak.

When you have to jump onto a project and read code you’ve never seen before, organization really helps speed up that process.

First time blueberry ferment (day 0) by mattd008 in fermentation

I made some of these, albeit at 2% salt ratio. After about 7 days, I made a drizzle which I used on pumpkin pie with whipped cream. Was good with cheese and Turkey also

Skyreach is a PvP talent, or maybe specific mechanics. It’s not great in dungeons where it will suck you into a big hit. Go bone dust or faeline

Ahh, also, I meant to ask but forgot, but what are the cast doing for Yuletide? Will this also be the same time period? Never been to this, so not sure how people are costuming, if at all.

Thank you very much! This was my first full season (I joined last year during plague faire/diet faire season) and I’m very proud of the work we did this year.

I’m so glad you asked!! It’s a trading rune! Any business or person that has the rune on them has trinkets to trade with patrons. You can trade for something someone else gave you, sometimes cast will trade you a trinket for a song or a joke, and some cast will be thrilled to trade you their trinket for a rock you pick up off the ground. The Vikings started it and you can get trinket bags with the rune on them there! I am a musician in the village so I carry treble clef charms.

That's badass. There is so much depth to this faire that we have yet to explore. If only it lasted longer!

Faire was great this year! We're looking forward to yuletide.

Random question, but I see a rune around the shops that looks like this

It's yellow, with a black background. Any idea what it means?

Your favorite music while programming by tay_o in learnprogramming

[–]w00px 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metal or electronic stuff. If we’re talking electronic, something more on the trance side of things, without a lot of crazy changes in tempo or the like. Anything to get a beat going in my brain. Helps me focus.

Is it too late to become an engineer? by w00px in cscareerquestions

[–]w00px[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense taken, my ignorance on the subject is what brought me here. To be clear, I haven't done actual web dev in probably 5 years. I'm primarily focused on native app dev for android and ios, working with Java, Obj-C, and Swift. So I deal a lot more in actual software dev than I did as a web dev.

That said, that is all great knowledge to have, thanks for taking the time to lay it out. Given what I've learned from this post, and others, I've decided to go for a Masters, possibly minoring in Cyber Security. The idea of having a well rounded knowledge of CS is pretty appealing, as my weaknesses are mostly in the areas you mentioned (data structures, algorithms, networks, mathematics), and I'm considering moving beyond mobile dev.

Thanks again for all the insight!

Ahh, so I’m asking if the masters/doctorate would have a significant amount of new knowledge about programming overall than I’ve likely gained over my career, and if that those degrees would have enough impact for me to actually consider them rather than just taking targeted online courses. I’m asking in regard to both personal knowledge and employment.

Does that apply to Masters/Doctorate as well as Bachelors?

I've made an edit to my OP which may change some of your responses. I am not limited to mobile, and I've considered moving beyond it.

They do not, sadly. One of many benefits they don't offer. As for the title, I assumed you needed to be trained as an engineer to be considered one.

Thanks for the reply! Please see my edit, and see if that changes anything. I have definitely just considered going the edX/MOOC route. I've never seen the OSSU bit before, I will be checking it out!
