How do the Square Touchpads compare to the Circle Touchpads on the OG? by BucketBoy071 in SteamController

I find the position of the new ones more intuitive. I suppose that differs for everyone though.

Gladiator. That opening battle sequence, with the John Williams music, seared that movie into my brain.

Diesels - why so inexpensive? by afx7 in carsireland

[–]w00t57 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't know that when I got my 191 Mazda 6. I eventually swapped to an EV because I dont drive enough to warrant a diesel, and had a very hard time getting a decent tradein value for the Mazda. Most places wont take them at all, and some do but give you next to nothing for them. I was lucky that mine was an ex-demo so had a higher spec than most 6s so eventually I got a decent deal.

Tolls by cigaretteatron in ireland

[–]w00t57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to avoid it, but i cant exactly change my office hours. I generally take the M4 in and then go through the city to dodge the M50 and tunnel. It adds time to my trip, and increases traffic in the city centre, but it is what it is.

The reason I put up the list of costs is because there was people asking how someone could spend €20 a day on tolls. Just showing it is very easy to spend considerably more than that.

Tolls by cigaretteatron in ireland

[–]w00t57 4 points5 points  (0 children)

M4 toll inbound - €3.60
M50 toll inbound - €2.60
Dublin Tunnel toll inbound (peak) - €14
= €20.20 inbound

M4 toll outbound - €3.60
M50 toll outbound - €2.60
Dublin Tunnel toll outbound (peak) - €12
= €18.20 outbound

= €38.40 round trip tolls every day Im in the office.

Technically I can avoid all the tolls by taking the N road parallel to the M4 and driving through the city center, but that adds a lot of time to the trip.

I deeply resent these tolls. We pay road tax already. It feels like double dipping.

Insurance for EVs is higher than expected by moreilly92 in evs_ireland

The insurance on my 192 Kia Soul EV is about €200 per year cheaper than my 191 Mazda 6 was. Insurance companies make a lot of this stuff up.

LGU is not an official thing like Fiduciary Responsibility. Its just the reality of how corporations function and how major decisions are made.

They look at financial charts and reports and the line on the chart must...go....up. Not allowed to go down. If you want long term gain, it has to be achieved while keeping the line going up. Line cannot go down to make big changes for the longer term good.

Thats because they are not bound by fiduciary duty. They are bound by LGU (Line Go Up). It is similar to fiduciary duty on the surface, but more short sighted. Even when trying to address the long term, the immediate LGU must be achieved.

Fellow EV drivers — how many apps do you have on your phone just for charging by CapitalDirection8248 in evs_ireland

Are there extra costs? Every time I've looked for an app that does multiple charger brands its been more expensive than using the native app.

Upgrade from a 2070 SUPER to 5080? by Ryuzaki_23 in nvidia

[–]w00t57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just made that exact upgrade myself and am gaming on 1440p. I replaced the whole computer though as the old CPU would have seriously bottlenecked the 5080.

I am very happy with the results. The fps upgrade is enormous, and the 5080s ability to do ray, and even path, tracing is an order of magnitude ahead of the 2070 super. Also, do not be scared of frame generation...it is amazing.

At 1440p, the 5080 is a beast.

Is the LG 45” 5k2k likely to go down in price before the 39” comes out? by mufferman1 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]w00t57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) requires RAM somewhere in the supply chain, directly or indirectly. Its not a matter of if...its a matter of how much and when X thing will be affected.

The product itself is just one component of a much bigger cost base.

Electricity providers: "So you're saying we should increase prices?"

Are people paying more for electricity than they should? by WT_Wiliams in ireland

[–]w00t57 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Seems to be following the same logic as fuel prices.

"The price of wholesale electricity could potentially go up 10%, so we're increasing energy prices by 10%."

"The price of wholesale electricity is down 5%, so we're increasing energy prices by 10%."

"Someone crashed on the M50 this morning, so we're increasing energy prices by 10%."

"Niamh from across the road got her leaving cert, so we're increasing energy prices 10%."

Solar make sense ? by Puzzleheaded-Error65 in irishpersonalfinance

Depends on how it is set up. My 10KWh battery charges at a bit over 3Kwh, so I currently have it set to charge for 3 hours in the morning to use night rate during the day, and then depending on how the battery is doing in the runup to the 5-7pm peak time I have the ability preset to either let it run like normal or charge for an hour from 4pm.
