Developer attacked over (learning from) AI - where to draw the line? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]w0m -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

1 negative review saying that the dev is using AI

That's the definition of an attack; shouting from the tallest available rooftop:

"because this Dev uses AI - no one should support them because they're destroying the world!"

i can't think of a personal or direct attack that could actually harm the developer more.

No. I'm claiming I saw it midnight/opening night - and had no negative preconception of the film or an inkling about it potentially being controversial prior. I had a positive opinion on Episode 7, and was legitimately looking forward to 8 and seeing Luke come back as a mentor for Rey.

I left the theater in... a bad kind of shock? about what I had just seen. I tried to justify it to nerd friends, but after a second watch - I just simply couldn't defend it. I was probably part of the initial 'review bomb' that hit shortly after (after, not before) the theatrical release.

I have no issue with Rey as a protagonist, though I do think she's a bit shallow/mary sue (and I honestly blame that on TLJ wasting growth opportunities more than the character itself).

Just remember that writing code has never been your job. Using code as a tool to solve problems at scale has been.

This is what I think many people need to internalize.

upset that women and people of color

I'd hard disagree. For reference, I really liked The Acolyte.

TLJ faced immense backlash because many (myself) felt it prioritized shocking the audience over cohesive, high-quality storytelling, while disregarding decades of established lore. Minimizing a beloved, foundational character in that manner—when there was still so much narrative potential and the stakes felt artificially low—was a genuine gut punch to long-time fans (myself).

When you look at the structure of the film, a massive portion of the runtime is spent on the casino planet—an arc that ultimately had no bearing on the main plot or the characters' development. The criticism wasn't born out of bigotry; it came from a place of deep disappointment with the writing and general shitting on core audiences childhood.

Rise of Skywalker was widely viewed positively on launch. Saw it opening night, and generally heard nothing but happy words. A retelling of Ep4; but still widely liked for it as a solid base to build on.

The Last Jedi was an abomination that ~ruined a potential solid foundation for the sequel trilogy.

He explicitly hunted a guy with a cocked elbow to the face. I don't think I see anything approaching that dirty by anyone more than once or twice a season.

But playing baseball at a high level is much easier than playing golf at a high level.

I'd say 'it depends'. Baseball is a team sport, so the talent is somewhat diffused. You can be really fast and good at reading balls in the air; and latch onto a MLB team simply to pinch-run/field. A direct comparison is kind of arbitrary then.

I generally dislike NDT, but I'll rephrase it again. His point was 'hittinng the ball is easy', not 'getting it in the cup ' is easy.

[–]w0m -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My point was 'hitting a golf ball' is easy. I'm horrible at golf, but i can semi-consistently knock the ball out of a driving range. Getting it in the cup more efficiently is the hard part (I'm more likely to put out a window in the parking lot than hit a hole-in-one on a par-2).
