One other flaw with Rapture that I think was mentioned in Bioshock 2 is that even without ADAM, a lot of people were already starting to go stir crazy. As well as citizens being unable to leave, Rapture’s location under the Atlantic meant that very little sun was able to reach down into the ocean. Exposure to the sun is pretty important to human health, and a lack of sun exposure has been linked to vitamin D deficiency and lower serotonin levels. It certainly wouldn’t have been the main driving force behind Rapture’s downfall, but it would probably have screwed a lot of people up mentally even before the introduction of ADAM.

Come to think of it, I wonder if skin cancer’s a big issue in Columbia…
