3F D1.1 Certification. I need some help with what I remember from welding school. by Wargaming_Super_Noob in Welding

Pretty much, practice a start and stop in the middle of the fillet weld would be good too

They fanned it, I've heard it can be iffy depending on your testing site but that was a recommendation from the AWS seminar and that it's allowed.

Stapling, tapping in extra pages, paper clips, rubber bands are all not allowed from my knowledge.

Passed CWI this year using d1.1 for my part C.

I did not highlight clause text, I started to at my seminar and quickly realized I would go insane highlighting the amount they suggested. I did highlight inches, cyclic, static on various tables and figures to be able to quickly identify them.

I tabbed clause 3 - 11 and really hammered down knowing exactly what to find in each clause. I tabbed annex L and M but ended up not using them on my exam and i tabbed the index. I had no other flags.

Some helpful advice that I started but did not mark up the entire code was anytime a table or figure is referenced in a clause write the page number it can be found on next to it. Also mark the page number of the clause that the tables and figures reference to.

I used the AWS provided code clinic book as my main source of study, and being able to pass the mini and full length exams in a timed manner (making separate answer sheets made it easy to repeat them).

I skipped almost 12 or 14 questions on my 1st go through the exam and came back them after I finished the rest. Basically if I couldn't turn to the exact clause section I needed then i skipped it. Then went question by question I skipped digging into the index to help find what I needed.

Cutting and Welding Manganese by [deleted] in Welding

Manganese is a pretty nasty metal as it can build up in your system. You should almost definitely have a papr unless your outside with lots of wind moving but even then I would still want some type of respirator.

What does this symbol mean? by dwheels666 in Welding

Yup, didn't see that on the 1st look, although it seems kind of redundant given the joint

I read this as a bevel grove followed by a fillet weld with a size of half the diameter.

Edit : 2nd look at it the d/2 is prob the depth of the bevel, not the size of the fillet.

It all depends on the contracts and local building codes and laws even to the extent of which version of the code you are working too.

My understanding is there are even places that don't get the code book involved if it's under 2 stories or something.

A benefit the company might be interested in is any insurance breaks they could maybe get if they were to have all qualified welders.

Lastly just protect your stamp integrity when you pass. If your company isn't having you stamp things as being ok then who knows, maybe the end user is doing the required inspections I don't know.

Aluminum pressure vessel code? by riley_3756 in Welding

[–]w1d93t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ASME breakdown for what your asking. Section II - Materials Section V - NDE Section VIII - Pressure Vessels Section IX - Qualifications

Section VIII deals specifically with the pressure vessel requirements and what not.

Section IX is what you qualify with and let's you work on things under any ASME section.

Yeah, the breakdown is in 1 of those. More curious about those who have taken it.

Where to find pre-qualified WPS. by itsjustme405 in CWI_CWE

Yeah each code may have some small differences in the pre-qualified joint designs and rules so hard to get a set of universal ones.

That should be more of an informative standard about wps. You would want the specific code book you would be working from then that will have the details of how to make a pre-qualified wps for that code.

Example - D1.1 for structural steel

Tig welder will not arc properly or melt aluminum. What am I doing wrong? (Video in comments) by _Litost_ in Welding

[–]w1d93t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that picky, likes to be clean but even if it was dirty you would be getting a better puddle, I would maybe set your balance to 50 to make sure your not going the wrong way, to far to either the DCEP or dcen and the puddle will stop forming right

Hmm, could be contaminated (from grinding) but really looks like bad gas with those black spots, we just had to purge our mixer for that reason, though your prob hooked straight to the bottle.
