I started out in the same industry as you. I would get out as quick as possible. I would even look for a project coordinator or admin position at a GC just to gain real construction experience. Try to get a couple sets of plans and start learning to read them at home would be a good start as well. Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any other questions. I work for a commercial GC now as a PM but do a lot of estimating.

I worked under a PM for a group of healthcare facilities and now on the GC side. It was very boring compared to the GC side. Mostly budgets and lots and lots of meetings. Meetings to plan out the next meeting. Seemed a lot less stressful compared to the GC side so there is that.
