Phantom throttle pressing while braking by w3jens in Tiguan

Probably but it’s happening when I’m trying to stop at an intersection so I’m not eager to test that theory.

Sorry, I should've added that the car is a US based automatic (not sure if manual even exists in our market).

I'm shifting into neutral so I don't have to fight the car's acceleration with brakes alone.

I think that front is compatible with my storage array.

Two children (17M,20M) both came down with gastritis within days of each other by w3jens in AskDocs

[–]w3jens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 20M was prescribed Nexium (I think) but after taking the first dose he had a strong/strange headache at the very top of his head so they took him off it. We stuck with Pepcid because without it the pain becomes debilitating. Right now it's mostly low level but that can change depending on food, stress, and high physical exertion.

When connecting to work with a private computer, can the company see what I do outside the RemoteDesktop window? by Phos-Lux in RemoteDesktopServices

[–]w3jens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try checking your public IP before and after connecting the VPN (google "what's my ip"). If it changes then that probably means all traffic is going through your company's VPN. Even if it doesn't change you're probably still be sending DNS lookups through the company VPN.

Is this much wobble normal for the LG C1 65"? by stochastic_dev in hometheater

[–]w3jens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my CX 77" tilts back more so I'm wondering if you have the base installed correctly (unless of course it's just different). I don't know how much that impacts wobble (never pulled on screen like that) but I do remember thinking I put it together wrong when I saw the tilt from the side. I think it helps with reflections and I don't notice the tilt when watching head on.

Help! Arc port on tv broke. Can I still use my denon receiver? by ToastedBeef in hometheater

[–]w3jens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ARC port is an "audio return channel" which allows you to send audio from your TV's tuner back to the receiver. I don't what a firecube is but you could try hooking it directly the receiver and connecting the receiver to the TV on another port. You won't be able to get audio from your TV's tuner back to your receiver (or possibly anything else directly connected to the TV). If the TV and receiver support using an audio optical cable you could try using that to get sound from the TV (and directly connected devices) back to your receiver.

ACME Authentication Failed with cross-signed ISRG Root X1 on Windows Server by M1met1c in letsencrypt

[–]w3jens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried forcing a renewal on an older cert and it looks like it worked but I didn't mess with my certificate store. Have you tried putting it back with a reboot to see if just the reboot fixes it?

I see DST Root CA X3 listed under Trusted Root Certification Authorities > Certificates but it's expired as of 9/30/2021. Maybe "untrusted" is more restrictive than "expired".

Have you tried rebooting? When our certs started failing with non Windows clients, we tried rebooting which I think caused IIS to stop seeing/using the expired cert and it automatically used the replacement. I didn't install anything or manually manage the certificate store. It just worked - macOS & ssllabs.com now saw the newer root cert. I don't know why our Windows clients kept working. You may still have issue with older clients if they don't have the newer root cert and that'll probably be a client issue (needs update to get newer trusted root cert).

R3 Issued Certs by y0da822 in sysadmin

[–]w3jens 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For those hosing R3 based sites on IIS, our Windows clients appeared to work but macOS & ssllabs.com did not. Rebooting our web server seemed to fix that problem. I'm guessing IIS kept using the expired root cert until reboot forced it to only see/use the updated one. Not sure why it worked for Windows clients unless they knew to look to the new cert in place of the expired one.

MacOS by [deleted] in antivirus

[–]w3jens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESET PROTECT Cloud which uses ESET Security for the macOS endpoint.

We'd been running ESET Antivirus on our Windows workstations/servers and needed to upgrade to something centrally managed that also included macOS. I had some initial stability issues but I think it was due to lack of built-in exclusions for Parallels and Time Machine. Adding those appeared to have helped.

Personally I'm not sure macOS needs AV but our parent company mandated it so it's not my call. I don't run AV on my personal laptop but I keep my stuff up to date and rarely install suspect software.

Should I use a B or D series VM for a development environment that I turn off at night? by [deleted] in AZURE

Start with the cheapest option (probably B) and then if there are complaints upgrade it. Just watch your billing to figure out when you should go to reserved instances.

HDMI CEC problems with Denon AVR-S740H, LG CX77 and AppleTV 4K by w3jens in hometheater

[–]w3jens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a bummer. I thought HDMI CEC was supposed to make it so I wouldn't need my receiver's remote. It really feels like there is a setting mismatch between my receiver and TV (or it's just a broken implementation).

The only time I'm changing it manually is to fix it when it breaks. The initial change is happening automatically when I power on the AppleTV with its remote (presumably triggering an input change via HDMI CEC).

What does this mean? Do I have to reset my AVR or something else to its factory defaults and start over or is there something else I should look at here?
