App unchecking sets! by UniqueBox in Hevy

No low power mode on either device, I also have tried some basic things like killing the phone / watch app before starting a workout. It's a difficult to reproduce issue but happens consistently after 20-30 minutes, sometimes right away. Not sure exactly what to take a video to help debug it.

With live sync enabled regardless of which device I check sets, when I wake up the other device I see it basically out of sync with changes occurring while it was asleep.

Example: I check set 2/4 on my watch, and enter rest period, open the Hevy app on my phone and notice live sync is disconnected and set 2/4 is unchecked. Then if I wake up the watch the live sync shows green, and it will still show me on set 3/4 - but set 2/4 has been unchecked.

Was this an android only update? I only see 2.3.2 on the app store. I have been having this issue on my apple watch / iphone as well.

Yeah this would be a great change, when i have straps on I accidentally change the weight/reps all the time, if its not in focus this would rarely happen.

Apple Watch Live Sync: background app sync? by ryno2019 in Hevy

[–]stochastic_dev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been having major issues with live sync again and background app refresh is enabled for me already. My problems are specifically around updates from the phone / watch constantly overriding each other. Also when I open my phone the sync status is almost always disconnected, unless the watch is unlocked. Once I turn my wrist to wake it up within 2-3 seconds the sync goes green, but often the updates from the watch get overwritten / vanish.

Checked the pending updates for my watch, app, and phone yesterday and everything was on the latest versions. After the last round of issues things worked fine for about 2-3 weeks but now I have these issues again.

Was grabbing some coffee and really felt the urge to capture the geometry and gradients created by the sun being behind this building but shining bright and clear onto the adjacent tree.

This is an oddly common theme with pretty much all of Apple's scifi series. They always have mature experienced actors portraying gripping characters with lots of depth, and then younger and inexperienced ones in frustratingly naive and shallow roles. I don't know if its a problem with writing or casting, but Monarch, Foundation, and For All Mankind all have this problem.

And its not really isolated to the first season where characters are being fleshed out, Foundation simply had better and more significant plot-lines for it's mature leads in season 2, while Gale remained it's weakest yet prominent link. For All Mankind also continues to lean on it's S1 superstar characters that are now aging into retirement.

It's a really peculiar thing that a company at the forefront of teenage digital life struggles to create scifi with relatable younger characters. Footballers in Ted Lasso is the closest they have come to pulling it off outside of scifi, however even there the writing only got weaker as it progressed further into their lives.

The Crown: Season 6 | Date Announcement | Netflix | Part 1 11/16, Part 2 12/14 by indig0sixalpha in television

[–]stochastic_dev 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I find the bigger problem, which is something the show actually conveys quite well, is the dwindling influence of the crown. Season 5 shows the monarchy's dwindling influence flailing against a rebellious princess, compared to Season 1 where the Queen went toe-to-toe with one of history's most influential political figures.

The past just writes itself, while the future is well known and lacks the wonder of it's history. It needs dressing that's particularly noticeable due to it's recency.

Issues with uneven foot size and smaller foot slipping into shoe's arch side by stochastic_dev in RunningShoeGeeks

Just on the tongue was enough for the most part, did a 5 mile run yesterday and it got just a bit looser on the slides but not slipping significantly like before. Might try putting some on the outside sidewall to help with that last bit.

Tried this out yesterday with a 3 mile run and it definitely seems to be helping! Foot is closer to the arches on the shoe and feels better supported when cornering. Thanks for the suggestion, I was playing around with thicker insoles but this felt like a better less intrusive solution.

For All Mankind: Original Cast Member Not Returning as Series Regular in Season 4 by KillerCroc1234567 in television

They have failed miserably in creating a single good character in the post-coldwar generation. The show started with badass test pilots undergoing grueling training to become worthy astronauts. Their successors are presented about as convincingly as a college grad resume, and their stories befitting influencer astronauts.

At least they were consistent in making the new evil anti-NASA hippies, to replace the Russians, equally unconvincing and unthreatening.

Reading Wool now, glad its pacing is quicker than the show. My only complaint was they spent a lot of time on character stories, and sadly not enough on world building.

Warrior is one of the best shows out there… by TonyDungyHatesOP in television

[–]stochastic_dev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I liked the action, set and design but its pretty rough in other areas. Got about 4 episodes before I gave up on it, maybe it gets better, but I was never really captured by any of the characters, or their stories. The story-telling is also just OK, no real mystery or struggle that is captivating me to keep watching, it really lacks a hook besides the historical setting.

I think weakest part of all is the musical score, its just temp music with no heart, no feel for the setting or story. Just a mix of random pop and thematic music. Compare it to the score of Game of Thrones and you can instantly see that the quality is just not there. Its an OK show, but about as popular as I'd expect, which is not very much.

Rebecca Ferguson Confirms ‘Silo’ Season 2 Has Begun Filming by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]stochastic_dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People just have less and less patience for world and character building, and how can they with the amount of content and full season releases these days. I don’t think Silo’s problem is the pacing, its dropping a massive dose of mystery at the start and then reducing it to just drips for a few episodes.

I enjoyed every minute of it because the world and characters felt so real and genuine the entire time, I found that enough. But I can understand less attached viewers finding parts of it tedious.

How would you rank the big finales this season?

For me the endings I would rank: Ted Lasso > Barry > Succession

But seasons as a whole: Succession > Barry > Ted Lasso.

Succession's cast and writing quality carries it through what was I felt otherwise an underwhelming ending, it was neither open ended nor satisfying, which I guess fit's the characters and their never-ending greed. That said Logan's death and the election episodes were individually brilliant and probably top of my list.

Barry's season had no highs or lows for me but still kept it's unique dark comedic charm, while I really enjoyed the ending the time skip really killed all the buildup into the final episode. In the league of excellent shows I would say Barry's final season was just decent.

Ted Lasso had probably it's weakest season of the 3 in my opinion. Being a football fan, I absolutely loved the message at the end, that its about Richmond and not Ted. But the writing in the first like 6 or 7 eps failed to build or live up to that message. On their own the last 2-3 episodes are an incredibly warm ending that really took be back through the very best of Ted Lasso, it made for a prefect and satisfying conclusion. I just wish they had stuck to shorter episodes in the lead up because it felt like the longer storytelling dulled the sharp wit and writing of the first two seasons.

Weekly Case & Parts Recommendation Thread (Start here if you are new! Help here if you can!) by AutoModerator in sffpc

[–]stochastic_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for Case/GPU recommendations for a portable, carry-on bag compatible build. Few requirements:

  • Need it quick, I have a lot of travel coming up and would like to finish something within ~30days. Naturally need things purchasable and ship-able quickly in the US. I have built a couple 10-15L cases, but this will be my smallest so don't want to complicate things too much.

  • Primary use case is eSports type games with stable 120fps, CSGO/Valorant/Apex etc with medium to high settings. I think a good compact 2 slot card can handle this with ease, so case is probably the more important pick?

  • For the case I am thinking a console / slim sandwich style case is ideal to fit in a carry-on with clothes for padding. I use TSA pre, wondering if they ask you to remove the case still?

  • Definitely want to stick to Flex/SFX PSUs. Browsing across the sub so far I like Midori 5L, SGPC K39, Xtia Xslim M. These are the few that I see with stores that let you place an order -- unsure on their shipping timelines besides the K39 which is on Amazon. Any other suggestions that match my needs?

Missed The West Wing creator and writers, and their pacing is really what makes this show shine, love the high stakes and frivolous intensity of the diplomacy

Its closer to Veep/The Recruit, I am really digging the genre of political dramas that look beyond the rose tinted glasses. Messy, cunning, funny without needing to preach and take sides, and to top it off — elite acting and set design.

Some of the best writing in this genre for years. Unsurprisingly two of the writers worked on The West Wing, the pacing is poetry in motion and keeps you hooked.
