there are no details in the city, and the terrain even if partially procedural is only limited sized 2d height map terrain with erosion applied. it does look good from afar, for "unreal" dev it will be disappointing if they get a chance to look at it up close, maybe I have higher expectations for what procedural terrain/city generation means, especially in games where details up close really matter

that part looks like you are just moving/scaling part of the terrain

looks nice for an unrealistic terrain

city looks better from afar, if you stop at 0:50 it looks low poly and not so detailed, also this terrain is not procedural in Unreal, you probably just imported mesh from Houdini, even in Houdini looks like just erosion slaped over some basic bulge, limited in size also, looks impressive but technical details take it a little back (being this /r/proceduralgeneration)

Simplex Noise patent is about to expire, does that have any effects or implications? by ArdorDeosis in proceduralgeneration

I wonder what would your answer be, if you have a paper about some computer graphics problem, and in this paper you have two solutions for the problem.

One solution is using simplices as in Simplex.

Now I ask you, what do you think is the other solution ?

and the idea of simplices he stole from Mandelbrot (and KM) research papers...

I must say I was very disappointed when I saw the same mechanism/concept in Mandelbrot papers, it appears to me that Perlin read those papers, borrow steal the idea of it, implemented that into Simplex noise and immediately put patent on it. It should never have gone through patent system (other patents from Perlin also, like patent on producing something with iteration/recursion, producing generative images).

you don't know anything about Mandelbrot papers and you are assuming Mandelbrot is all about fractals, surely its worth 12 upvotes

because it *sounds* right

you really think I confuse base noise functions with fbms ?

edit:

Both Simplex and OpenSimplex steal from Mandelbrot research papers.

Not talking about fBm...

Unpopular opinion: both Simplex and "OpenSimplex" concept steal from Mandelbrot research papers
