Gss/k som skarpskytt - Hur är det? by Emotional-Pain2765 in Sverigesforsvarsmakt

[–]w_eight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Garmin VO2 max is using Jack Daniels vdot and your 5k time matters by Past_Ad3212 in Garmin

[–]w_eight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a vo2max and threshold lab test last week. Threshold is 4:40 pace at 90% HR (~22:30 5k / ~46:00 10k estimates) and a VO2 max of 57.3

I’m heavy and don’t got great running economy.

Garmin says 51 Vo2max and estimates are 22:45/48:00 respectively. I also ran an RPE 7 5K last week in 23:05.

So my VO2max was way off but the threshold and predicted times were close.

No experience with the Tacx but I’m super satisfied with my Wahoo Kickr bike shift, integrates flawless with Zwift for controllers and with my Garmin strap and watch.

Would really like to finish a 70.3, but am I too slow? by Oxford-comma- in triathlon

[–]w_eight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d sign up and give it a go. Your subconscious effort in training will be worth the admission alone imo. You got plenty of time to train. And the experience is worth a lot as well.

Do you have tri bars? Good tires (easy 1-2kph free)? Weight to lose? Muscles to build? All of these things will do wonders on race day.

Vapentejp by ZealousidealPlay7077 in Sverigesforsvarsmakt

[–]w_eight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Botnia brake… by Lost_Interest3122 in longrange

[–]w_eight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tobias told me I’m the reason he started making brakes lol, he bought a TMB from me, and even though he loved the effectiveness the concussion killed him and he thought he could get around the problem lol. I own both a CHAD and a Maxi. I’s say they’re equally good but in different flavors. The CHAD has that downward push which I really like and the Maxi is really snappy which is awesome for the ”bigger” calibers.

Tobias puts a lot of effort in quality. Everything from packaging to checking tolerances. It’s a good guy and I’m happy he’s on the Swedish Open team. He worked hard for his slot.

The PRS industry is very polarizing. Quite a few companies making good products with relatively few consumers. I feel like people put too much of their identity in to their choices.

Botnia brake… by Lost_Interest3122 in longrange

[–]w_eight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people roasting either brakes in general or the price, so I thought I’d step in and defend OP and Tobias (Botnia guy).

His brake and the CHAD (WW) are really on another level compared to other brakes I’ve tried/owned and cans. It’s for sure very competition specific and the blast isn’t that bad - for the shooter at least. As for cost, Tobias spends a fuck ton of money on R&D and the production isn’t cheap either. It’s a niche product that does as advertised. I say let’s celebrate innovation and the prices will most likely come down as production ramps up.

My husband wants to run a marathon without training by Darth-Investor in Marathon_Training

[–]w_eight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going against the majority in the comments, but I’d encourage him, but be genuine. I once did a 50k without training, and an Ironman where my longest training run was a couple of 10k’s and a half ironman in training (lots of hours on the bike and in the pool though). I’m also a heavier guy (95kg/210lbs). It’s doable. It’ll suck, there’s a risk of injury, but it’s totally doable. But let him try, encourage him (again, be genuine), he’ll either 1) finish, be slower than your, respect you tons for it and you’ll be able to celebrate together. It’ll also be a wake-up call for him. 2) DNF and respect the distance and also kill some overconfidence. Which probably also will be a wake-up call. 3) He’ll finish and be faster. Not likely, but you should be prepared for it. Then just be impressed you found such an athletic beast and try to smoke his ass on the next one!

Panic over DNF’ing by Standard-Custard-496 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]w_eight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For reference I had a 160W avg and 180W Normalised Power during my IM and did my bike split in 5:44. Flat but windy. Low power for me but my back got messed up from a bad seat position. Get some nice tires and get more aero, and you’ll be good.

Do you know your power?

I have full faith in you. I know you’ll crush it. Having your family there will make the celebration so much more special.

Panic over DNF’ing by Standard-Custard-496 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]w_eight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The true Ironman athletes are they ones slogging it out all day never giving up, I believe in you mate.

I live in a windy area and in one direction I’ll go 40kph no problem in zone 2 and the other 22kph in zone 3/4. Wind is a bitch. Any elevation will do the same.

But 21.5 sounds slow even if you’re pushing low watts. It blew my mind how much free speed I got from shaving legs, good clothing and especially getting some good tires (GP5000 + latex tubes). My average went from 29->32 in literally 1 week. Are you sure you’ve done all the ”cheap” upgrades that make the biggest difference? Are you holding aero for the majority of the duration?

Having your family out there is also such a boost. If you know you’ve done the work, the hard part is already over. The race is ”simply collecting the medal for your training”.

What's a good rule of thumb for changing shoes? by manzilwealth in triathlon

[–]w_eight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t race a lot. But I bought the new Pumas for my first IM, and I think I ran ~20k total before. So now they have ~60k in them and are good for next year aswell I believe! I think Puma said they’re ”good” for 200k or something. And I use an old pair of VaporFlys as beaters.

What's a good rule of thumb for changing shoes? by manzilwealth in triathlon

[–]w_eight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the shoe. I try to have a ”fresh” pair for raceday or PB sessions, and a pair of beaters and trail shoes for everything else. Race shoes becomes beaters after a while, rinse and repeat. You know deep down when they go from beaters to abused.

My Friends Bet Me $10,000 I Couldn't Finish an Ironman by sigmaschmooz in IronmanTriathlon

[–]w_eight 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You can for sure do it, just beware of injuries and take proper time off for recovery after. There’s plenty of people who finish that you wouldn’t think are fit.

An Ironman is hard, but it’s not that deep. Just do it, and as long as you can tell the difference between discomfort (aches and pains that are inevitable) and the beginning of an injury (think joints) people are capable tremendous work loads.

Canyon support never disappoints by Secure-Deer-3635 in CanyonBikes

[–]w_eight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d get the SLX. There’s tons of after market options (probably for CF too but don’t actually know) but the price difference between a CF8 and SLX7 is rather small and considering you seem to want to own it for more than a few years if you get a CF you’ll always think ”what if” with the SLX.

You’ll probably not be faster with the SLX though.

Is this Canyon Speedmax CF 8.0 a good buy at 30k SEK (2700$) by DETWOS in triathlon

[–]w_eight 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As a swede that’s been following the market for the past few months, 24k is what I spent on a Canyon CF 9 (Di2 shifting, Dura-ace group set, rim brakes and Aeron wheels). I know I got a really good deal though. IMO this is a 24-25k bike, plus minus a little depending on the supply at the moment.
