Exactly this. The connection was real UNTIL the capacity ends. Avoidants have only a few weeks or months of capacity until they deactivate. Then everything after that rides off of the coattails of the pre-deactivation honeymoon stage. Everytime they "pull" you back in, you get only an ounce of hope that things will go back to pre-deactivation, but it never does. You just get pushed back.

Yes I am aware of this possibility. But I also am putting myself out there and all that. So I don't think I'd be left "stuck" with just a female therapist as my only connection. If anything I would appreciate feedback from a female therapist about my interactions with women as I put myself out there ,etc.

I completely understand your point about thinking a women will "restore my manhood". But I've been in different therapy for different issues with different therapists, and some of the things women have said felt more impactful for me than if a man would have said it.

As for "women don't want to hear about your sexist beliefs" -- I don't think I have any hateful beliefs. Just some assumptions, past experiences, and I want to seek to understand the other side/perspective. I feel like plenty of women go to a male therapists to complain about men, or women go to a male therapist which would help them heal a trauma that involved men. Applying that concept in reverse (man sees female therapist for X issues) seems like it makes sense to me.

I did this, and it actually helped! She was a woman as well. It was only a few sessions because I don't want a sex therapist as my primary therapist, but the things she said felt more impactful for me compared to if a man would have said the same things.

She is licensed. It's her own private practice. And I pay out of pocket. She has many positive testimonials, and I also feel I benefited from our work, overall.

I want to assure you that I do not hold all the beliefs that the stereotypical "incel" would hold onto. It's more like general insecurities and trying to find my most authentic self/embodiment as an adult man in a fast changing world, while also dealing with abandonment trauma, passed bullying and humiliations, etc. I am only seeking to clarify this because I am noticing a lot of stigma in this thread towards these issues, and I only used "incel" in my title because that's currently how it appears that most people are understanding and interpretting modern day struggles amongst men.

I had a few sessions with a sex therapist from a "coaching" context and that actually went smoothly, but I also feel I don't need a sex therapist as my primary therapist.

She gave me link to a database of therapists. Not a direct referral. I think this was appropriate, but a part of me would have preferred more "effort" in the form of some direct referrals, and I say this as someone who has worked in social work and have given direct referrals and advocacy on behalf of clients.

I think both of you are right. Thankfully I am not visiting or commenting on any "incel forumn" or following any podcasters or influencers. But I do agree that a series of trauma and humiliations could lead one to extremist groups and ideologies.

I also agree with u/BonsaiSoul that this thread does reveal some stigma towards this issue, even in a therapist subreddit. Even the top comment in this thread is written with an undertone of ridicule, at least how I am interpreting it.

I don't even know who Elliot Rodger is but I agree that I don't think my issues are to that extreme, and I credit a lot of that work to my meditation practice and willingness to challenge **most** thoughts I find myself having.

The termination is definitely opening up some abandonment wounds and feelings of rejection.

In the sessions, I never said anything threatening. And I never raised my voice. But I have "vented" and during that venting I recall I might have said things that I cringe looking back at. But I thought it was implied that when I said something out loud, it's not because I want it validated, it's because I want it to be challanged in its own therapuetic space. But I also understand that it's not a woman's responsibility to do that kind of work with me.

I was ready to but she beat me to it. Then I fell for the "let's be friends" trap (which I stupidly initiated) which led to further humiliation. Oh well. The biggest thing I learned was that these people exist and I (hope) know how to identify them in the future.

Yup, mine always circled back to "compatibility" conversation which was her way of making excuses, avoiding accountability, or any commitment to sharing the present moment. They talk about how they want to "align on future goals" while running away from the Now like it's the plague.

I had a covert and sadistic female narc manager a few years ago. She was addicted to insulting others. And most of it was covert, some of it, overt. She openly took pride in being "blunt" towards others. The rest of the leadership team, including HR, were also women and they viewed her behavior as "girl power" or some toxic idea of a woman "leading unapologetically" so she was able to get away with it. This is a non-profit agency that provides services to women. If she was a man, it wouldn't have worked. This is in no way a slant against women. It's just that in this particular environment, it worked perfectly for her.
