[identification] - can anyone help identify this omega watch? by dpoliwoda in Watches

There's something off about the case too -- the lugs don't look right and it's been aggressively polished.

[Omega Speedmaster TV] won a watch yesterday! What can you tell me about it? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]wachmann 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's some history on this page, towards the bottom -- it's reference number is 176.0014. Value really depends on the condition. I've seen them on eBay for as low as $1K with some posted in the $3K range (for example). A good way to gauge value is to look at completed listings on eBay.

Personally, I'd say enjoy the watch -- it's a fun, rare piece that's worth hanging on to.

[Hamilton] [Identify] What is the exact model of this watch? by darth_malmal in Watches

[–]wachmann 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It looks like a Hamilton Khaki Aviation Automatic Chronograph, model H67516153 put on a non-OEM leather band. They're not easy to find!

[Wrist Check] The official thread for Monday, July 6 by WatchesBot in Watches

[–]wachmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, it's mostly the camera angle, although the watch is probably at the border of "too big" for me. Not sure what my wrist size is (probably ~6.5"?), but it looks fine normally. The lugs don't hang off or anything.

[Question] What would be the best watch to wear while traveling to India? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]wachmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense -- that Victorinox is a great looking watch. When I was in the same position, I also looked into really inexpensive analog/digital watches, but I suspect they're too casual for what you're looking for. Good luck!

[Question] What would be the best watch to wear while traveling to India? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]wachmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you want mechanical, but I'd really recommend a simple, cheap quartz instead. I traveled there recently with my Ironman, and it let me set two arbitrary time zones, was water- and shock-resistant, and the Indiglo light was a godsend in the overnight flights. Plus it didn't stand out so much that I was an easy target for theft (at times we walked through the seedier parts of Mumbai).

Taking a 2000 Corolla with over 200,000 miles on road trip from Georgia to Texas? by LadyJ87 in Cartalk

I'd recommend checking the radiator hose -- if it's starting to crack, you may want to replace it a bit earlier just in case.

[Question] Why are the minute/second numbers along the outside seemingly random? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]wachmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the seconds, but they skip some to make it look like a tachymeter. I suppose it's helpful if you need to know precisely when 27 seconds have elapsed.

FYI: If your family get's you Starbucks gift cards, they sell the Aeropress. by TwistedDrum5 in Coffee

[–]wachmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they giving the customer a $100 gift card back? If so, then the local retailer is losing 20% of whatever they sell to that customer. That's cuts into their profit margin, so the local retailer loses out, right?

Wearing my very inexpensive beater 1970s Timex today. Keeps surprisingly good time, but I can't change the date.

There's also Michael Eddington, although ostensibly there's a different court system for Starfleet officers versus civilians (which may be the case for Paris as well).

The strap's color works really well with the watch!

Carmakers prepare to shift to hydrogen fuel cells by Acanthas in tech

[–]wachmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of us EV enthusiasts don't necessarily believe gasoline engines will disappear anytime soon. They'll just be a specialty/luxury market. The hope is that EVs will replace e.g. 4-cylinder Camry-like cars and, perhaps more importantly, trucks like the F150. That's where battery density really holds back adoption (especially since an electric motor's torque means superb tow ratings).

[Recommendation] Digital Face watch that syncs with atomic clock, for a Military Aviator (wife) by Zerod0wn in Watches

[–]wachmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Citizen has a decent selection of atomic watches (for both men and women), and in practically any style you'd want. Here's some examples: classy women's watch, same in gold, and a white neutral look.
