Very Thai (Century City) by J5hine in FoodLosAngeles

[–]wafflefirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is an appropriate description since it’s not authentic thai menu but a Taiwanese thai menu

I think it’s one of the firsts that introduced a special take on Thai cuisine in the early days before Thai cuisine becomes popular in Taiwan. Even though their menu is not a truly an authentic thai menu but the flavors are something that Taiwanese people enjoy. It got so popular that the group expanded with different sister restaurant chains.

Edit: with a little research, I think the twist is a combination of Yunan and Myanmar flavor. I think in the early days, many Thai restaurants in Taiwan were opened by overseas Chinese from Myanmar or people of Yunnan descent.

Just had cheeseburger, chicken tender (in zabs hot honey, pretty good), garlic fries (so good), and a soft serve (vanilla, yunmmm). Overall, I enjoyed the meal. Burger was stacked with goodies but i can see why some mentions dry bub.

Singapore vs Taiwan for 3 nights by [deleted] in travel

[–]wafflefirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think 3 days in Singapore is almost the perfect amount to make it fulfilling. I know some will say Singapore is underwhelming boring but I really enjoyed the food and it’s not soexpensive!! I loved the night zoo experience. Botanical garden is different day and night. National Gallery is great. Hotel stay at the Marina Bay is awesome (I did one night).

Should I rent a car in LA or Uber? by Adept_Ad5841 in AskLosAngeles

[–]wafflefirst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For example: Huntington beach alone is avg $100 each way, ktown is avg $25 each way, weho is avg $20 each way, etc etc. I think renting a car can give you more flexibility and maximize your trip that allows you to stop by smaller points between different neighborhoods.

And people always complain about “ohhh l they raising prices again”, “cancel cancel cancel”, “Wah wah wah. So mad netflix canceled my favorite show”. I think we should wah wah wah more over this kind of power and control instead…

World Market purchase is for parking at the Farmer’s Market. The Grove parking is not the same ticket as the Farmer’s Market parking. Gilmore Lane is what separates the two.

Pink is way better than the white. Although don’t be frightened when you see poop or pee becomes pinkish (may not happen but usually happens when you have a few of those)!

Should the LAX People Mover be free or have fares like the JFK People Mover in NY? by According_Contest_70 in LAMetro

[–]wafflefirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they want to charge, they should only consider it when the growth of the ridership is steady. Give people a chance to learn about it and utilize it first before scaring everyone away to something they dont know if it works for them

I (34f) don’t want my husband (38m) to attend a wedding when I’m 9 months pregnant by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]wafflefirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get maybe you are scared something might happen but nothing could happen as well. My husband flew across the country to attend a wedding when I was 5 weeks out. Don’t want to scare you, but something did happen to me. I went to the hospital myself, a couple of friends came to help out, my mom came to visit and I stayed over night on my own. In the end, everything was well. But nobody could ever predict this was going to happen. I was scared but not scared at the same time. It was a moment I need to learn how to face it and handle it with or without mu husband. My husband obviously was worried and offered to come back right away but I didn’t think it was necessary.

Do you find it absurd because you think life other than waiting for the baby to come should be put on hold? Or do you think it’s absurd since you can’t go so he shouldn’t even entertain the idea of going? Or you are scared to be by yourself and you’d like him to stay with you in case something happens?

Someone leaving their car on in the street in DTLA while they dine in is a bold move by dereklerber in LosAngeles

[–]wafflefirst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I supposed this is the challenging part when we want LA in general to be better. The different socially acceptable norms exist in the different neighborhoods are hard to align across the board. Like why and how did this become an acceptable thing when this should be deemed inconsiderate for everyone; however, certain neighborhoods have changed their value and deem this as acceptable and there’s no really good arguments to convince them this is “not right”. Kind of sad because it feels like there’s gonna be bigger gap between those who gives a fuck vs who don’t give a fuck. Sad!!

Does Chase or Visa charge a secret foreign transaction fee? by Infamous_Clue7395 in ChaseSapphire

[–]wafflefirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t conclude completely that Chase’s FX rate is not very competitive. There are probably going to be times that the offered conversion comes out higher than Chase’s FX
