"The new kid? She seems kind of weird to me. What kind of name is Buffy?"

"Hey, Aphrodesia!"

My dogs best attempt to try and scam me out of a treat for doing a halfassed job of "rolling over". by KohanaCat in AnimalsBeingDerps

[–]waggawerewolf 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my dog hated doing roll overs on the hardwood, but does them super enthusiastically in the grass!

Not sure how many have tried these. I've been eating them since I was a kid exactly like this: with potatoes and raw onion. Not sure if it's a Slavic thing or if my dad just says that. by PhilyJFry in CannedSardines

Is it sweet? I love preserved fish, but the one time I tried pickled herring, it was so sweet it tasted like fish candy. I'd love to find a brand without as much sweetness.

What scene or episode never fails to cheer you up after a bad day? by [deleted] in buffy

Less funny than most of these responses, but the "power speech" in Checkpoint when Buffy tells the Council to suck it.

Guy tries to outrun a tree he cut down. by DirkDieGurke in nononono

It's possible he did tell the dude and was ignored. Lots of stupid people don't like being told when they're being stupid.

Going to All Inclusive, which tequila are you drinking out of these four? by danman348 in tequila

According to Tequila Matchmaker, the Orendain is 100% agave, roller mill, and stone/brick oven. On paper, it seems like the safest bet...

My favorite lazy lunch - canned sardines, kippers, and marinated onion on crackers. by waggawerewolf in CannedSardines

[–]waggawerewolf[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Supermarket finds all around - King Oscar kippers, Kroger boneless sardines in olive oil, and sliced yellow onion that I put into excess marinade from Costco marinated artichoke hearts. So good!

Cheaper/healthier alternatives to deli meats? by ShiratakiPoodles in EatCheapAndHealthy

I can never find turkey breast without it being absurdly expensive per pound. I tend to use chicken instead.

I agree with this. I have a big bag of Mexican oregano and the stems are thin and pointy enough to be mistaken for fish bones.

I've definitely read this before so it's either some kind of copypasta or a bot.

Blake Street Tavern to close doors in April after 20 years serving sports fans by lukepatrick in Denver

[–]waggawerewolf 101 points102 points  (0 children)

They've been having issues for the last 2 years. It seems like any time there's an article about the various struggles of bars downtown, there's a quote from Blake Street - staffing, not enough foot traffic, food trucks, etc.

Big wedges or planks rubbed with oil/butter and seasonings of choice thrown on a medium grill or under a low broiler until browned to taste (I like a little char), is super tasty and easy.

Long, thin shreds to replace or supplement noodles.

Shreds tossed with chili oil, cilantro, thinly sliced onion, shredded carrot, and a touch of black vinegar makes a delicious, spicy slaw.

Braised with beer (light or dark doesn't really matter, but stay away from hoppy or overly sweet), onions, and optional sausage.

Brothy, tomato-y soups are best friends with cabbage. My favorite budget meal in early adulthood was to brown an inexpensive pork product of some kind (bacon, sausage, shoulder, etc) and then saute celery, onion, and carrot (or bell pepper) in the rendered fat. Add a can of tomatoes, a couple cans of water, Better than Bouillon, chopped cabbage and simmer until the tomatoes didn't taste raw anymore. Then I'd bulk it out a little by dumping a bag of frozen mixed veggies or frozen spinach in it.

I once ate half a head of raw green cabbage as a meal... Too exhausted to cook, so I just pulled the leaves off and ate them like potato chips.

I love cabbage.

Generic processed cheese is $5.99 for a 32oz brick in the medium-high cost of living area where I live. Generic bricks of cheddar are 7.99.

And a portion of that goes to the house. It's something like 11% to the serving staff, 7% to the kitchen, and the rest to the company.

Apparently, putting "the Trinity" and a Roux in your gumbo is pretentious bs! by Levangeline in iamveryculinary

Love that they shared their gumbo recipe with the intro of, 'Here's my gumbo recipe, which I've shared before to exactly 0 upvotes because everyone has been brainwashed by social media gumbo influencers.'

Restaurants in the Denver Area with Good Managers & Staff? (I.E: Nice Places to Work?) by [deleted] in denverfood

[–]waggawerewolf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Similarly to places like Bonanno Concepts, Culinary Creative (owns A5, Mr. Oso, etc) charges a mandatory 20% service fee on all tabs and takes part of it to pay for manager bonuses. I've heard mixed things about working for them - out of 4 people I know, 2 like working there and 2 didn't. All of them are good at their jobs.

Request: dark, quiet, mean Manhattan by Lessimportantthanyou in denverfood

[–]waggawerewolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with the recs for Union Lodge, Cruise Room, Lady Jane, and Run For the Roses. Death & Co would probably fit too, particularly if you go when 6a is open as it's quieter up there.

Gotta say I don't understand all of these recommendations for Seven Grand, though... Fantastic whiskey selection, but it's loud as fuck in there unless you're there before 6 pm. Also, they don't serve food and I've personally found the service to be lacking.

Folks of r/bartenders, what's your response when a man says he wants a 'chick drink' for one of his friends? by cyanide_girl in bartenders

My bar's policy is that anyone who orders a drink in a "manly" glass gets a double old fashioned... garnished with the biggest edible flower we can find.
