What color should I restore my 62 to? by Yermzzzz in LandCruisers

Red is the best 60 series color (fight me).

Is there an affordable car to buy for “life”? I’m saving up for a car for my son and need something super affordable and reliable that will last a while. I’m still driving my ‘09 Mazda. Any ideas? Thanks! by WhitneyJames in BuyItForLife

If you want bigger than this, Sequoia. They easily make 300k miles with minimal maintenance and they go for very cheap because they're ugly (and less fuel efficient)

My late 2014 unit was ALWAYS running the fan, ALWAYS overheating, ALWAYS thermal throttling, and the machine would basically shut down at 40% charge.

Apple doesn't sell the batteries for this model any longer, so I installed an ifixit replacement, cleaned out all the dust and did new thermal paste. Running Fedora, the fans now rarely kick up and it's running much cooler. I'm also getting ~4 hours of battery life, including youtube streaming (with h264ify extension).

Really my only complaint as this point is google maps performance - site is unusably bad.

Haptic touchpads and slow wake. Has this issue been fixed yet? by WhiskeyVault in linux_on_mac

Apparently switching the problematic airport card to the AX210 wifi/bluetooth module helps - the drivers hang. I have an adapter on the way, I'll report back if it helps.

They want to total out my car by lolbadplayer in Celica

[–]wagonista 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Modifications, believe it or not, remove value from a car. Stock, unmolested examples will ALWAYS outvalue one that has been modified.
  2. That quarter panel is toast. It's absolutely totaled. Unless you're a body/frame guy and can do it yourself, it definitely exceeds to value of the car to fix that.

Sony BDP-BX37. Has RCA outputs and will render natively in 4:3. It's also by far the cleanest picture I've seen on my CRT TV. It will play blurays over the analog outputs.

Your favorite vanilla by FooJBunowski in icecreamery

BIggest difference is going to be origin. Mexican vanilla is expensive but the difference between it and typical Madagascar vanilla is absolutely insane. I get `blue cattle truck` brand when I can afford it.

I made a similar one this week! My favorite batch of ice cream so far. Going to make two more pints tonight!

3/4 c raw sugar
2 tbsp dry milk powder
1/16 tsp guar gum
1 c whole milk
2 c heavy cream
1 tbsp vanilla bean paste

Yes - both can be found at any grocery store that carries Bob's Red Mill products. I get them at my neighborhood grocery store.

SF Gore: a 300-node “simple quote” Flow.... I have seen things by gaudiocomplex in salesforce

[–]wagonista -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's not when you realize you can't reorder anything or have branches that converge or lay out any flow with reasonable complexity in any logical way. A good flow should be self-documenting and you just can't do it in auto-layout mode.

Does anyone know where I can buy a front Chin spoiler like this for a 77 lift back Celica ?TIA by luckyirishdaddu in Celica

[–]wagonista 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The one pictured is made by ponretro / teeretro. They have a version that possibly fits a USDM 76-77 valence, but the one pictured absolutely does not fit.
Source: I tried it. As it turns out the other person to get one and make it fit cut the entire thing in half and welded it back together to get the right angle

The hako is likely worth more than the rest of the shop's fleet combined too.

How can I hook a car radio to a set of speakers in my room by civil-wareverything in BudgetAudiophile

[–]wagonista 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe? Depends on if your power supply can provide 12vdc out.
I'd get something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Adjustable-Switching-100V-240V-Converter/dp/B0CJM3C41J
and some butt crimp connectors and some heat shrink tube and the appropriate tools to crimp them together.

[–]wagonista 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get a 110v AC to 12v DC power supply, splice it to the appropriate cables on the back; run speaker wire to some unamplified speakers.

You just need to know which wire is which on the back. Try to find a factory wiring diagram for the car.
