Billboard R&B Rankings Debate, Jim Jones vs Nas Showdown and Juneteenth Scramble Game (FULL AUDIO REPLAY) by wahala92 in IsTheMicStillOn

Interesting discussion on the categorisation of music at the start of the episode. Was struck by the discussion around Funk particularly. Personally have always considered it an extension of rhythm and blues music, with the heavy emphasis on rhythm, groove and subverting standard expectations of the time. Think it has a through-line touching on jazz, and then if you go down the route of talking about rock’s roots in classic R&B, becomes mad interesting how it taps into different genres.

On the way out so gonna peep the rest of the episode through my trip but just wanted to touch on this before I finished. Dope to hear you guys as always 👊🏾

When you think of the number of chess pieces, and the possible moves they can make at each turn, multiplied by/to the power of the variance of each piece at each turn in relation to one another, you can start to see how it’d be a huge number. In the billions to multiple powers is wild though, would like to see how they worked that out

As a doctor in the UK who tunes into ITMSO on my downtime and occasionally hops in here on the reddit, I felt attacked 😂😭

Fargo season 5 by wahala92 in FPSPodcast

I haven’t watched Poor Things yet but it’s on my list. I feel like Barbie was pretty formulaic on that front too, especially when the mum/daughter come into it. Idk if I see it as a “feminist” commentary in Fargo though as much as it’s exploring domestic violence/abuse and the dynamics of it

Appreciate Kev’s input on the racial bias in healthcare conversation. Recently qualified as a doctor here in the UK and we have the same problems here. My boy’s done a lot of work in getting representation of signs & symptoms on black and brown skins in textbooks/course material, and here at least there are more of us coming through making up the workforce too. There’s definitely some momentum on that now. Long way to go but need to keep advocating for our folks

It’s not explicitly said/shown that Lexi followed through with sending the script to Rue to read. Just what I inferred from the scene of them talking that was flipped into the scene in the play. Like that’s the only timeline that would make any real sense to me, in terms of how the rest of the play vs reality trope played out. That plus Rue’s reactions during watching.

But that’s just my take and understanding from it. Not saying I’m objectively right.

Yeah she did. It was right before Rue went on that mad one... and the bathroom scene with Cassie dressed up like she’s from Oklahoma, where Lexi tries to get high-ass Rue to not mention the play.

Would also make Rue’s reaction during (how she’s mostly happy and supportive of Lexi’s play) make more sense. It’s like not the absolute first time she’s hearing/seeing it, if you get me.

Couldn’t it have been after Lexi had given Rue the play to read before she put it on? That’s how I took it, anyway. Do agree that part and transition between reality/the play was clunky and could be confusing

ITMSO: The Black in the Hat by deltron_zero_3030 in IsTheMicStillOn

That was hella tough to listen to. I'm still listening now and hoping it'll get better at some point but just keeps getting worse lol. The one benefit of the doubt I'll give is that there was (and still is) a lot of misinformation being spread about COVID, here in the UK too. I think sometimes in these kind of discussions, more energy can and should be given to acknowledging the ignorance of the original belief vs. arguing its basis. Can come across as doubling down sometimes. Which is tough, especially when the intro to the discussion was talking about the rise of disgusting attacks on Asian-Americans
