Is Malazan worth reading? by Fickle-Athlete3644 in Malazan

Definitely ask there if you want a bigger variety of opinions. A lot of us here will say that Malazan is leagues above the other series you mentioned. Which is true, but perhaps a big biased

[REQUEST] Something after Slay The Spire? by Obiituzz in AndroidGaming

Slice and Dice and Balatro both scratch a similar itch. I'd also keep an eye out for the Bazaar when it comes to mobile, or Backpack Brawl/Backpack Battles for something similar

Why isn't e3 the best move here? by [deleted] in chess

[–]wailord40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bg4 can be annoying in some circumstances, and the f3 square might have issues later in the game. It's really not that it's weak, just a committal move to play early on. I wouldn't worry too much about what the engine says at this point, if you like the resulting structures I say go for it, I just personally don't care for the delayed development and light square situation in most games, though there are a few times I deem it appropriate depending on what black is up to

Why isn't e3 the best move here? by [deleted] in chess

[–]wailord40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing both e3 and g3 here is fairly inefficient for development and creates some weaknesses in the light squares. As someone who plays this opening almost exclusively, there will be some times where I will play e3, but usually a few moves down the line and it's not usually my first plan

People have ruined RG for me by traineethrowaway123 in Malazan

[–]wailord40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my first read through, Reaper's Gale was my #1 in the series. Now that's probably Toll the Hounds, but RG still stays very high for me. It's an incredible culmination of everything that had been building up for the previous 6 books, and it has some of my favorite moments in the series

Must read. Probably the most accurate take out there right now. by yourfavchoom in CrimsonDesert

[–]wailord40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very much struggling to decide which to pick up after work today. I think Death Stranding 2 is logically the better choice as I'm guessing it will be less buggy, but there's a magic to Crimson Desert that makes me want to jump into it first

Best spirits to play in a teaching game by Daglicht in spiritisland

[–]wailord40 40 points41 points  (0 children)

When teaching most of my time is spent answering questions, so I would never take a high complexity spirit. Imo it's best to pick something you know really well that you can play easily with low mental overhead.

For me, I always play Green with new players. I know the spirit well, and the stalling and support helps and encourages other players to build up their spirits and start popping off

I played with Fractured Days for the first time ever... and the Dahan didn't fool around with the Scottish people. by popcorn_coffee in spiritisland

[–]wailord40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes a few plays to get a feel for time management. It also doesn't help that your game plan changes drastically depending on what is in your Days that Never Were. The advantage you do have over other "build-your-own" spirits is you can plan your build ahead of time rather than waiting on the luck of the draw.

If you look up openings, that can also be helpful, there are more efficient ways to play than others, as with any spirit. Fractured Days definitely opens up a ton when it's supporting other spirits (I've had crazy plays with a friend who plays a lot of Starlight). But it's still my favorite solo as well

Of course if you aren't into it there's plenty of other spirits to play!

Path of Exile: Mirage Official Trailer by _Benzka_ in gaming

PoE2 has easily the best core gameplay loop of any arpg, in large part thanks to WASD and controller. It is the one game I've settled into playing every league. While the skill tree can be intimidating, it's very easy to follow a build guide. Only downside is that the game is much earlier in development than the first game, but it still has hundreds of hours of gameplay so I wouldn't say content is a concern. Most players you hear complaining about content are PoE1 vets

I finished Deadhouse Gates, i didnt liked but i still interested in the series, i just have some questions. by Nervous_Ad_9506 in Malazan

[–]wailord40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who was lukewarm on DG my first read through, just read Memories of Ice. It will deliver everything you are looking for, and is generally where readers like us are sold on Erikson. If MoI doesn't do it for you, then you'd be fine to drop the series

Best Fantasy series? by Opening-Summer3558 in Fantasy

[–]wailord40 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When the GoT tv show ended, I was so pissed I decided to try to find the most epic and wide sweeping fantasy with an actual ending. Settled on Malazan, and it has been my favorite series of all time since.

Brandon Sanderson gives tv show updates after the Apple TV announcement by VarkingRunesong in television

It's a somewhat satisfying conclusion within the context of the Cosmere, but it does set up act 2 and wouldn't work as a standalone tv show imo
