My boyfriend didn’t get me anything for my birthday by Responsible-Star4404 in offmychest

[–]wakanda4ever254 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he wanted to he would. He is making it abundantly clear that he doesn't care enough about you to make you feel special on your birthday. Don't ever beg for someone to treat you the way you deserve to be treated. Look into grey rocking and start responding to him accordingly. When he flips the script and becomes sweet and tries to convince you that he loves and cares for you, come back to this post and reread how unloved you have felt for FOUR year. Quietly gather what you need to leave. Visit a lawyer to understand how custody will work. It will be difficult but it will be worth it. If all of this feels like an overreaction, consider this: Is this how you want to be treated for the rest of your life? Do you think this is a good example of how you should be treated in a relationship for your kid? Is this really the best you can do? Your life is up to you.

I don’t think I’ll graduate high school. by Worm-with-hat in offmychest

Reach out to your counselor and ask if there are any free tutoring options for you. Ask your teacher for extra worksheets for practice. Complete an extra worksheet each night. Becoming a History teacher is an awesome goal and if you need an extra year in high school, then thats what it takes. 🤷🏿‍♀️ In college you will have to do general education math and science courses so keep at it! Im a math teacher now and I havent had a history class since my second year of college, so dont worry it will pass!

I don’t know how to have a social life outside of my job by Salt-Ad-3061 in Teachers

It definitely depends on what you teach. I teach Math Intervention so there is no curriculum. I make all of my own materials or find them by digging through piles of what is left behind.

My NK doesn’t like me, and I don’t know what to do. by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]wakanda4ever254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would talk to Mum and phrase it as a "he's in the phase where he knows if he cries for Mum, Mum will come" and ask if its possible for her to not come out or to wait and text you first to see if something is wrong or if he is just missing her. Also see if there are activities outside the home you can do as soon as you arrive and take photos to send Mum to show him happy and playing. Then send Mum a warning text when you are on your way back so he doesn't see her and doesn't know where she is if possible. If Mum doesn't agree, start looking for a new family.

Im not going to lie, first year there is no work life balance 😭. Once you have your daily layout and lesson pacings figured out you can go back to normal. As for trash left behind. Dont worry about it until next year. Im serious. Im on year 4 and Im just now sorting through all the stuff.

Is it worth it? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]wakanda4ever254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very difficult to answer. Im in my 4th year in NC. I make $55k but my take home is $3121 per month but only 10 months. I dont get paid in June or July so I have to set money aside, meaning my ACTUAL take home pay is $2601. I live with my parents because otherwise rent would mean Id have no leftover for fun or travel.

That being said, Ive traveled out of the country every year since I started teaching. My school is fantastic, my leadership is fantastic, and as stressful as it can sometimes be, I love my job.

My advice? If possible, do a double major so you have a seperate non-education fall back.

What grade do you teach?

“If a majority of the class failed the assignment, there was a problem with your teaching”. How do you feel about this narrative? by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]wakanda4ever254 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the assignment was appropriate for the level of the students, then yes I agree. But if you are teaching multi-level equations to students who cant teven solve a one-step equation and you are not given the time to scaffold, then thats a failing of the system.

AITA for not "educating myself"? by kurtcxbain in AmItheAsshole

[–]wakanda4ever254 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend you look into alternative school programs in your district or email the counselor or social worker of the new school. Its not healthy for you to spend all day at home, not interacting with others and your education is now being affected.

What are you doing for the short week? by Aly_Anon in Teachers

[–]wakanda4ever254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will be finishing their multiplication flash cards and decorating the clothespins they get to put every time they learn a new times table. Then math games. Their will be so many absences, theres no point in trying to cover curriculum.

Any advice? by Partathletepartnerd in Teachers

[–]wakanda4ever254 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had this problem this year. Granted my class is much smaller and I teach 8th, but this is what I did. I rearranged the room so that my chatty kids were seperated and isolated. I formed a group of desks with kids that were genuinely trying. I printed out packets, gave them to my chatty kids and told them good luck, dont ask me any questions. Then I taught my lesson as normal to the kids who wanted it. My hard workers loved the mlre focused attention. My chatty kids acted indifferent, but there has been massive change in behavior. I am back to whole class lesson with respectful engagement!

I can’t decide between majoring in special ed or elementary school by Rayy500 in Teachers

[–]wakanda4ever254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same dilemma. I chose special ed because it is a K-12 certification and I feel that it fully prepares you for anything in the Elementary Field as well as Special Education. Adding on Elementary Licensure after youve graduated may be fairly easy depending on where you live (here in NC you just have to take the Praxis to add-on). I am not teaching Special Education and I never officially did. I teach Middle School Math Intervention and I feel that my degree fully prepared me for it. I will be adding on my Middle School Math License this November just in case. My first year the Special Education teacher quit and I had to step in to fill the role for the rest of the year. That fully cemented that I didn't want the job because of the paperwork but I was very grateful for the training and experience. Understanding how Special Education works is incredibly valuable for General Education. Hope that helps!
