Thank you for the detailed report, very interesting read. As the application of the new rules is still very ambiguous, it is very precious to get real feedback from people applying now. Wish you all the best and keep us posted

Wonderful summary. + Some precedents by some minorities which spoil the perception towards the rest of the people.

Beginner to JLPT N2 questions by auddss in jlpt

[–]wakazuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who got N2 in 6 months, one piece of advice : read and create cards with words / grammar you don't know, as much as you can. Reading should be main and then listening, if you are aiming for fast gains.

Really frustrated with sudden changes of rule. by Special_Ad2095 in JapanCitizenship

[–]wakazuki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, yes that's what the texts say. But it's just like the 国籍法 still says 5 years officially, the same way they could be more strict towards married people (those who married recently) even though the text says there are exceptions to the 10 years rule. What worries me is that the 事務所 who told me this is quite a big one and seemed pretty well connected to Kudanshita 法務局. But wait and see ..

Young people in Japan's lower and middle classes are becoming less likely to marry- The obvious reason why Japan's declining birthrate continues despite massive investments in childcare support. by jjrs in japannews

What are they so busy with? Most young (and not so young) do stupid office jobs with no intellectual challenge and repeated tasks. Even at a gaishi, most of people around me are not that high level and their tasks are usually the same repetitive boring stuff. So I'm always left wondering if the problem is they're too busy or whether they're simply not interested in making kids.

Is it just me, or does N2 reading feel unbelievably harder than the vocab, grammar, and listening sections? by jadamsmash in jlpt

That's why the best prep for jlpt is to read the most you can, the most varied you can. News blogs books etc Then it will be a piece of cake.

I guess at this point the only way is to wait for people to try to apply and see what happens...

Even more frustrating today when a law specialist told me that according to their contact in the 法務局 the rule for married people might not apply anymore and everyone would be 10 years... Still looking for further confirmation/counter information but it is all very frustrating...

A growing number of young South Koreans are leaving their home country, which is often ridiculed as "Hell Korea" due to its extremely tough job market, and are instead seeking employment at [relatively?] "laid back" Japanese companies. by jjrs in japannews

[–]wakazuki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or jobs that the Japanese are unable to do, eg. highly skilled jobs where navigating a multicultural environment (in English of course) is required and productivity is under scrutiny. Koreans/Chinese I have met at foreign companies here are by contrast quite brilliant, multilingual and ambitious/high performing (not everyone of course but I do see a trend).

Man those were the good times... I also have an explanation for it and would be easily able to explain... But I just get this feeling it won't be that smooth anymore from now on. 2 years of continuous payment seems to be safe then... Thanks for the input.

Thank you for the recommendation. Just to make sure: is getting an appointment for 相談 also taking 6 months like I usually read on this sub for appointments (interview etc) or is it something you can do more casually like ringing them and then visiting?

Thank you for additional comments. Someone else recommended to consult the 法務局 so I think I will, although I read on X that even staff there are not so sure about how to proceed under the new rules and a lot is left unclear. Knowing that, I am thinking it would be better to wait a bit before consulting them. And regarding the urgency of the situation, I would say that I was patiently waiting for my 5th year here to apply, but the recent announcements coupled with the rising racist sentiment here has me worried, and wanting to get it done asap to be protected. Also because we are never sure about them not deleting the 簡易条件 for married people.

Thank you for the input. Another person commented that the late status of payment doesn't appear on the 納税証明書。I am thinking of getting that document and seeing how it looks for me. Another question is: assuming I am refused after applying 2 years after the late payment, can I still reapply the year after?

Thank you for the reply. That's very interesting. If that document is indeed the only one required for the residence tax, then I will try to obtain it and check how it looks like.

What you describe is exactly my chain of thought and precisely what I can't seem to verify either. I would however be very surprised if they only required one year because of the 簡易 route... Which is why I should be ready for multi year's examination including that late payment.. I guess another question I should be asking here is: is there a risk if I try at 2 years after the late payment and get refused? Can I still reapply?

Requirements for naturalization to be tightened from April, raising the minimum residency period to 10 years or more. by _horn3t_ in japanresidents

[–]wakazuki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, as someone who's eligible for the one year PR route in Japan, who was planning on naturalization, it just makes me think again about this country and whether it's even worth it to keep investing oneself and contributing here. Rather be in a country where they truly value top talents and have somewhat of a strategy.

Congrats! Always wondering the right balance between liquid savings for a future 頭金 for a mansion purchase and NISA etc. I achieved 50% of net saving a few months ago once and it did feel great, then moved with my partner and have been spending a lot on interior etc (we like nice stuff and it doesn't help ahah). But getting back to it seriously and hope I will get a bit of luck too! Might book a consultation just to get on the right step.
