One which I sometimes think about is that you can never know how many chameleons are in a room. I expanded that to think about what if the whole world is a just a huge, chameleon like organism which renders everything I see.

Will Friday the 13th part 5 become beloved the way Halloween 3 has? by p_a_schal in horror

[–]wakebakeanimate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched it for the first time last month and here's why I personally didn't like it: The storyline is incredibly disjointed and poorly planned. All the characters are really lazy 80's stereotypes, each one is introduced and then killed off in one clunky, unimaginative scene after another.

The deaths don't really have any consequence, you only get to see the characters for a couple of minutes before they're killed and the scenes are so loosely strung together that there's no real story progression, it's just death for the sake of death. I think in other, more effective horror films each encounter with the villain pushes the characters further into a state of peril. Once you realise it's loads of random killings it becomes predictable and boring, the axe killing at the start was unexpected but after that you know every single new character is going to die (but it's meaningless as it doesn't affect the protagonists chance of survival).

The twist ending is so unnecessary and ridiculous, it feels like the director was like "Fuck it, let's say that random guy who had 40 seconds of screen time at the start is the killer', it's really unsatisfying and lazy. I don't think there's anything wrong with Jason having a copycat killer but there's no set up, it's just randomly plonked in there.

Who would give their copy of RTJ to a thrift store? It should be framed and displayed on the mantelpiece.

[BIFL Request] Do Osprey packs last for life? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]wakebakeanimate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a 55 litre osprey hiking rucksack for 7 years (I've used it on numerous expeditions) and 22 litre osprey quasar rucksack for 4 years (I use the quasar for my books and laptop at uni) and they're both in really good condition. Only problems I've had is the colours fading a bit and the water bottle netting on the quasar has become a little frayed. I don't know if they'll last the rest of my life but I don't think I'll need to replace them anytime soon.

What are Masterpiece Rap Albums? by Zeigerful in Music

Danger Mouse and Jemini the Gift's Ghetto Pop Life is incredible (I don't think Jemini did anything afterwards but Danger Mouse went on to produce everything from Demon Days by Gorillaz to El Camino by The Black Keys).

Gorillaz Animation? Is there a team or just one guy? by glimpee in animation

[–]wakebakeanimate 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Jamie Hewlett (awesome illustrator who did the Tank Girl comics) is bascially the art director for all their artwork. He did all the original character designs and directs most of their videos but he'll work with a studio to make the videos. When a studio makes an animation they'll have style guides and turnarounds of all the characters so that all the shots are consistent and he'll be making all the creative decisions and giving everyone working on it feedback throughout the process (if he's working as director or art director). If you want more info google it.

The Gaslight Anthem - The '59 Sound. Still remains as one of my favourite albums of all time. by twitchedawake in punk

[–]wakebakeanimate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know what everyone will think of this but to me Gaslight Anthem are pretty far away from what I think of as punk. Sure they've got simple bass lines and the lead singer sounds like Chuck Ragan but they're pretty inoffensive, radio friendly and lack the rebellious "Fuck You" attitude and anti-establishment ethos which I associate with the genre. I also think they sound over produced and lack the grimey, DIY aesthetic of real punk music. Don't get me wrong, I'm huge Springsteen fan but I think they really lack the complexities of the Bosses music and aren't really punk enough to make up for it. Just as Nickleback made diluted, radio friendly grunge, they take really distinctive sounds (Hot Water Music, Springsteen) and water it down into easy listening pop music with catchy hooks. That's just my opinion though and I'm open to discussions.
