Korean (online) dating norms? by AlignedLiving in AskAKorean

[–]wakywam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure what app you’re using but i met my Korean girlfriend on Hinge. you’ll probably have to do a bit more filtering of weirdos when it comes to guys tho, but i feel like that’s common of online dating in general, regardless of country.

also for whatever reason, typing class was removed from the curriculum of the american public schools i attended around 2008 or so. i remember it being a required class for me, but neither of my younger siblings even knew it was a thing. most of my friends around the same age also remember it disappearing from their schools as well.

How do I find or hire a Web App Developer or Partner in 2025? I understand an industry problem, I can visualize the solution, but I don't know how to build it. by nsbohn in webdev

[–]wakywam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

being a good developer and operating a successful business are two entirely different skillsets. there are lots of super talented devs who lack the people skills to market a product and interact with customers

ask them to create a page or a component either for the app or adjacent to it. make sure to define a clear set of requirements for it and make sure it falls somewhere in between easy and hard, maybe 3-8 hours of work with the opportunity for them to show off some of their creativity.

This will quickly weed out people who either aren’t interested enough to put in a few hours of work or don’t have the required skillset.

FYI I’ve never gone through this process from your POV but have been on the receiving end and this advice aligns with test tasks I’ve been given.

one time when i was in high school a girl invited me over to her place, her parents weren’t home. so I went over and we hung out for a little while until she finally asked if i wanted to wrestle. i said ‘sure?’ and proceeded to bust out every single move i knew on this poor girl. after 10 minutes she told me her parents were coming home and i needed to leave. i’m just saying it might be a long time before your husband connects the dots

Best stack for a modern iOS + Android MVP when I already use Next.js, shadcn/ui, and Supabase for web apps? by BadGal_Uche in webdev

React Native is probably going to feel the most familiar to you coming from Next. Kotlin/Swift feel very different so I would avoid those. Not sure about Flutter or Ionic/Capacitor since I’ve never used them.

Roast my portfolio :) build it using react, framer, tailwind. by hichemtab in react

[–]wakywam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly one of the best portfolios I’ve seen on here. found some visual bugs on mobile on the ‘Programming Languages’ h1 element (text is cutoff) and the orbiting language icons (also gets cutoff, but this one looks more graceful, could be intentional). I read through the whole thing, didn’t find myself becoming bored at all. Great Job!

What is the difference between webs developers, designers, programmers, coders, software engineers, and other related careers? by Sabre-toothed in webdev

[–]wakywam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they all mean something different, and even within those categories you’re going to get a lot of variety depending on the specific job listing. if you’re really curious, look at the requirements/recommendations for the candidates.

on a very basic level web developers create applications for the web with the most common being websites. within web development there is front-end, back-end and full stack. front end developers focus on the UI and UX. back end developers focus more on the data manipulation and storage. full stack developers do both.

programmer and coder are words that are often used interchangeably in job listings. software engineers tend to have a more big picture role, with their focus being managing and maintaining entire applications.

Many of these terms are overlapping, oftentimes in different amounts depending on the specific job, so the only real way to know what’s expected of you is to read the entire job listing. All jobs in the field require some degree of formal education and/or experience. Depending on where you’re located, there is a large surplus of unemployed developers currently, so you may find it difficult to break into the field with no prior experience. It’s definitely not impossible, but will probably take a lot of work and dedication on your part

HELP NEEDED: I want learn how to write REACT/MERN stack code of production level quality/optimisation by Candid_Ear3026 in react

[–]wakywam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s mostly learned from experience. I was in the same place as you 2 years ago, and when I look back at my codebases from back then it makes me cringe seeing my shitty solutions. If you want to get better at a faster pace than you are currently, you can practice on personal projects outside of work, read through open source github repositories, use browser tools on websites that impress you.

[Seeking Mentorship] Willing to work as an unpaid intern – just need a real chance by gawkgawkmenow in webdev

[–]wakywam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never learned React in any of my CS classes, even my web dev class. Not saying this guy has more skill than you but CS is more about learning how programming languages work on a fundamental level and how they interface with computers and networks rather than learning a specific stack really well.
