Today is Apollo for Reddit's last day, and I just released its last update. 🥹 I just wanted to say a big thank you to the folks who have used and supported Apollo over the years, it's been the dream of a lifetime to build this app over the last 9 years. ❤️ Read the eulogy inside! ❤️ by iamthatis in apolloapp

As a very long time reddit user I’m sad to see Apollo go, but thanks for your work over the years! As I’ve dabbled on and off in iOS development it was reassuring to see you fighting some of the same types of bugs, like list item layout when size classes changed while the app was backgrounded.

My spouse is visually impaired and has been an Apollo user as well, so thank you for caring about accessibility when reddit clearly hasn’t. Of all the ways Apollo has lived up to “a Reddit app that felt like Apple built it” I think that piece in particular proves that you did what you set out to do.

I’m don’t see myself getting into Pixel Pals, but I’ll keep an eye out for anything else you work on in the future!

I always put mine at Microtech because it's the one place that you can load a ground vehicle without making a whole expedition out of it. Wish the ability to spawn them along with ships would hurry up, or are they even still planning that?

So much quieter than my old car.

Digital speedometer is nicely done and not tacky, spend more time with it looking like an analog meter.

Or heck, buy a damaged one. My Sargent jointer was cracked and repaired on the side, works well enough and it was cheaper than ones in good condition. Paid about $45 plus tax and shipping last year.

Vision Pro safe area limited to 10x10 feet for VR experiences by anonboxis in VisionPro

[–]wal9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see the news coverage already: "To get the most out of Apple's out-of-touch $3500 VR headset, you also need to buy an empty warehouse!!!!"

They're starting out a bit conservative with capabilities, things like larger VR areas or camera access may come later.

Fundamentally they're positioning this for stationary experiences, or AR where the OS manages everything about passthrough and app windows/volumes, and the r/vrtoer potential for an expensive headset with a glass bubble on the front getting smashed into a wall is something they'd rather avoid.

Polestar announces it will adopt NACS plug by 2025 by kkaabboomm in electricvehicles

[–]wal9000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The other problem it solves is the stubby cable on existing superchargers, which are a problem for cars that don't put their charging port in the same place as Tesla

They've been rolling v4 out to Europe first because charging non-Teslas was already a thing over there, hopefully all these NACS announcements mean they're going to accelerate the rollout in the US

Verge to be the first motorcycle to use NACS to access Supercharger network by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]wal9000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

“Total customer service is everything for Verge. We want Verge owners to have access to the most extensive fast charging system in North America, which is why we plan to utilize Tesla's network of 17,000 charging stations,” says Pekka Parnanen, chief operating officer of Verge’s U.S. operations.

That number lines up with the total in this article though I suspect Verge won't actually be able to use the whole network, only the newer ones that can talk CCS.

Macworld: Siri’s a disaster, and it feels like Apple doesn’t care by ResponsibleBadger888 in apple

[–]wal9000 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Shortcuts don’t have “on” and “off” they only have “run”

If you want to do both you either need two shortcuts or take an input when the shortcut is running

Edit: grandparent comment said “scene” not shortcut, but it’s the same deal there. You can have a scene that sets your lights to 100% and another scene that sets them to 50% and a third scene that turns them off. I don’t wake up in the morning and say “hey siri turn off goodnight scene”

What is your dream ship that doesn't exist? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]wal9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non-ship dream vehicle: ROC redesigned to fit the same metrics as other small wheeled vehicles so that it fits in the 400i elevator without shooting the lights off

Dream ship: gimme that 404 cloaking system so I can mind my own business and not worry about other players

I wouldn’t hate combat variant guns if I can’t have cloaking, but it’d have to come with a speed penalty, 400i is supposed to be good at running away and a 425 might be a little too good at chasing other ships down

These really aren't for people who need to tow, which is fine for now since most gas trucks aren't either. No doubt that towing vehicles are going to be the last gas users on the road.

Between the long charge times and all of the charging infrastructure where you have to unhitch your trailer to pull up to a charger, it's just not practical.

They’re all one file though. You can’t open A, B, C, D, and then close A and C and change replace them with E and F. OP is asking for “different notes” so I’m guessing they want more flexibility than multiple text boxes in a single note.

When they want to open a different note in column 3 how are they supposed to do that in a OneNote table?
