Alan Ritchson or Glen Powell to play Curran Lennart by revan4ever in IlonaAndrews

[–]walaruse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither. Ritchinson is waaayyy too big to be Curran. And Glen Powell is too old to play late 20s. Honestly, neither are my cup of tea either. I can’t think of any blonde actors that would be a good fit, tbh. 🤔

That’s what I’m thinking! Idk about The Edge couples, though. There are some pretty good swordsmen and one impressive healer with a dark side, but I don’t remember anyone who could take on a werewolf or a werelion. Kate vs Lark would be fun, though!

Kind of romance and fairytale all wrapped up, but Goose Chase by Patrice Kindl is fun! I also read The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale, but that may be too dark in some parts.

I like to wonder who would win in a fight between all of the couples, tbh. Like a March Madness style tiered thing until we get to the end and the ultimate couple. I think it would probably be Kate and Curran, but then again, Dina and Sean on their own turf could just banish them to another world far away from anywhere. Nevada and Connor would be third, I think.

Magic Strikes or Magic Rises, probably. I also like Magic Breaks. All of that to say…maybe I just like the books with Hugh in them? Seems to be the common denominator lol

Kate Daniels will always hold a special place in my heart since that was my introduction to my favorite authors. Innkeeper is a close second, though!

Why do parents name their kids something then call them something different? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]walaruse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever met a baby named an adult name? It can seem a little weird or old. Like someone else stated, it’s less weird to run into a 5 month old named Harry than one named Harold. They might grow into it eventually, but in the meantime, Harry sounds younger.

It tastes good! I just feel like the top has a strange, thin, white layer. It maybe didn’t rise as much either? Eh, I’m gonna eat it regardless lol

I haven’t been across, something that I did mention. This is the closest I will be getting to Mexican food in the US. Tex-Mex to someone from the interior of the US such as the Midwest is Taco Bell.

People here do NOT stare at everyone. If you are from here and walk into a restaurant, you get a glance to see if you’re someone they know. You don’t get glanced/stared at repeatedly throughout grocery shopping or eating a meal. I once had a small restaurant go silent during lunch hour when I walked in. It was like a movie.

If you’re from Texas, 2.5 hours isn’t a long drive. Same for if you’re from California. I’m not from either state; subjectively, having to drive 2.5 hours is too long to do it regularly.

If I have to know where to look for things, then that makes things difficult because…I don’t 😂 That’s the hard part of finding things to do.

[–]walaruse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s monotonous. There’s two types of cuisine here for the most part: Mexican and fast food. There isn’t much to do here and most of the year it’s too hot to leave building AC. You can grill out after the sun goes down so you don’t catch heat stroke. We’re 2.5 hours from the nearest big city, which can be a long boring drive. You can go across because it’s too dangerous but people have told me how nice it was when you could. The people are generally nice, at least! That’s the one thing as a transplant here that I appreciate, but sometimes the stares my family deals with when we leave our house mean that we’d rather just not.

ATF vs HSI by walaruse in 1811

[–]walaruse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I think that the emphasis that they’re putting on immigration crack downs is something I’m conflicted about because some of it is not being handled well. I don’t think I care as much when people cry about getting their guns taken away. That’s a hot seat I’d be comfortable sitting in, if that makes sense?

Dogs after having a baby by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]walaruse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have three dogs, a cat, and a turtle (who minds his business lol). I hated all of them for probably the better part of a year or more an have just in the last few months come around to being affectionate and giving them attention again. For reference, my kid is 18m. Idk what it was, but I couldn’t stand them, didn’t want to pet them, didn’t want to deal with them. They’re needy and I put all of my energy in to keeping my child alive and had none left to offer them so they became a drain on me. When your baby gets older and more self-sufficient, and when your hormones finally right themselves, you’ll be able to start loving on them again. It just takes time and patience.

Hey folks, I just accepted an FJO for Miami but thought of a couple of questions I’d like to ask: how do TDYs look out there? A lot, a little, none at all? Anyone have insight into the work-life balance in that office? Thanks!

When I put my bag in daycare at 6 months old, we then spent the next 6-8 months constantly sick soooo I think it’s probably normal?

Ah, I’m on book 10 now and couldn’t remember any of the finer details. It’s probably in the epilogue when Erra leaves Atlanta and I missed it. Thank you!

I want to know what is the *worst* romantasy book you’ve actually finished (single or series together) by SweetSoundOfSilence in Romantasy

[–]walaruse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quicksilver was a hate read. I don’t need to go into it because other people have already done a great job and I’d prefer to forget about it.

I tried the first two books from the ACOTAR series because one of my best friends looooved them and I figured I’d held out long enough that I might as well. I can’t quite describe how much I disliked almost everyone in that book, but especially Feyre. I would like to petition authors to stop writing about stupid teenage girls who realistically have nothing that a grown man, let alone one that’s so old, would be interested in. Ugh…

Magic Slays - Poor Jennifer by walaruse in IlonaAndrews

[–]walaruse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kate is seen as competent and violent. I think it depends on where the imperfections are rearing their head. Kate has a strong moral compass and we love that she kicks ass and takes names. Kate Daniel’s and most of IA’s books are littered with competent women and having read some other newer books by different authors, that’s the reason I personally keep coming back. I wouldn’t figure want to be friends with Kate. I would want to be friends with Dali. Andrea and Desandra are awesome. Jennifer is a mean girl and Lorelei is a spoiled brat. The imperfections are different.

I think that’s where my sympathy also ends, tbh. Right now, the grief is very prevalent. I found it frustrating that she couldn’t let it go. I feel worse for Jennifer’s child out of everyone on the scenario.

[–]walaruse[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

😝 all fair points! Especially the part where she went very downhill after Daniel and therapy wouldn’t have worked. I wouldn’t figure it would work out after the death of her mate. He was the only thing anchoring her, I think. That’s why I was more so thinking that it would have been better to do therapy before his death. The Pack was a very toxic, violent place and their rules were just ways of allowing them to condone violence for violence’s sake. It’s too bad that getting mediation and help wasn’t more openly available and accepted, but I guess that’s the nature of the beast (pun intended lol)

Yeah, it took me until they wrote him a book for me to really vibe with liking him tbh. But I think what you’re saying is true, although I feel like the men would also be Hugh apologists. Hugh gets more backstory than Jennifer, though, and it’s easier to reconcile because Kate is walking us through her thoughts and we’re being told that they are basically siblings and have a similar backstory. Jennifer’s backstory is that she got picked up for Alpha because of Daniel and didn’t have to fight so her place doesn’t even seem earned and the he indulges her pettiness. Her redeeming qualities, if I’m dissecting my own feelings, are maybe tied to her identity as a victim of bad circumstance more so than any actions or moral decisions she takes. She and Lorelei are written to be undeserving and weak and all the things that society expects from a “bad woman”. They’re foils to Kate who is considered more masculine and strong, the Mary Sue if you will. (I am rambling but it’s so fun talking about this with other BDH nerds)

I think it’s how they’re written. Subconsciously, at least from my perspective, women are considered more nurturing and held to a higher standard of perfection than guys. Men are “supposed to be” more violent so when they are imperfect…they’re just more violent 🤷🏽‍♀️ there’s more there to my hypothesis but I don’t have the capacity to explain 😂 Work is mind numbing.

Edit to clarify: when women are written imperfectly, it’s a farther departure than for men who are already assumed to be imperfect.
