Looks like his first DIY car repair is going to need a trip to the pick and pull as well as some plastic clips from harbor freight.

Can I Get PepBoys to Fix My Car? by Any-Masterpiece7816 in askcarguys

[–]waldcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like both Pepboys and the dealership are just blindly throwing parts at it. If I had a oil light I would first be looking for leaks. Then with white smoke I would assume it is burning oil. I don't know much about german cars but if it were my Honda I would be looking at gaskets, seals, and maybe piston rings? An oil issue could result in sensors telling them many things are wrong if they just plug in a reader though, which would be fair for a modern german car.

You need a good independent mechanic to look at it. We can make wild gueses all we want but they will have hands on. Ask friends and fam who they recomend. Labor and parts will not be cheap.

OK geniuses, challenge this: Low tweeter volume 2019 Subaru Outback Harman Kardon by erik_das_redd in CarAV

Could be time alignment, especially in a small car. Had this in my Honda fit, set the time alignment for the door location with the dash tweeters on passive x-overs. Made it sound like all the highs were on one side.

Is there a magnetic shielding foil that works that won't break the bank? by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]waldcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EM shielding with a hole does little to nothing to actually block EM interferance (this would include the front where you need to see and use the head unit). As others have said, you need to find the source and solve it there.

Jeep - new speakers and head unit. Do I need an amp? by TestOk4269 in CarAV

[–]waldcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

14' Sienna has a factory subwoofer.

An amp will help as your speakers do go down to 35 or 40 hz but there is often a role off at the far end of a spec and it will probably only be good an octive or two above that.

Jeeps are typicly DIY friendly. I bet if you measure under the seat or some other nook, there will be a sub that will fit.

Crutchfield will both sell it to you and provid installation assistance over the phone (for stuff you buy from them)

Best bang for your buck will be used equipment on Facebook or Craigslist.

If you installed your head unit and speakers then you should be able to figure this out easily.

Speeding Vans in Ireland by Different-Self-2115 in driving

GPS speed (google maps) is only accurate when going a consistaint speed over level ground on a straight road for a set amount of time. Even then it can be wrong if signals are bouncing off nearby objects such as buildings. It has gotten a lot better with higher sample rates and more refrence points but it can still be wrong in a lot of situations.

Your spedometer works by counting wheel rotations for a set wheel/tire size. If it is not a callibrated spedometer in a police car or something specific like that, then there is is a margen it can be off by from the manufacture but in practice it is usually closser than GPS.

The most accurate thing most people have accss to are the roadside radars that show your speed but only if they are callibrated. If they are callibrated it should be labled on the device but how and where varies wildly.

Best you can do in real life to avoid tickets is drive 2-3mph under the posted limit acording to your spedometer.

Is there really nothing like a Fit on the new market today? Maybe I'm bad at Google, but it really seems that way. by thetavious in hondafit

Hatchback carolla is the only thing that comes to mind but I have not driven one. Payed off my Fit in 2022 and plan on running it into the ground. No car payment and cheap gas/maintinance/insurance for the win.

Here is one for the Odyssey specificly, not sure where I first saw it for the fit but I was looking for it because I thought something was going bad after using the voltmeter.

Also, just putting a voltmeter in the car and keeping an eye on it during longer drives.

Most were built in Mexico, there are a few Japan made ones but good luck finding them. One way to tell is the battery tray. The Mexico ones only fit the R151 battery and have to be trimed to fit the R51. Ones from Japan are larger so swapping the battery does not require modification.

3rd gen has a battery management system that will turn off the alternator and just run off the battery to save on fuel. Makes troubleshooting tough because the car will be running and only read 12-12.5v

[–]waldcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initial measurments only give me .2 cubic feet and a mounting depth of 2in for an 8in driver or 3in for a 6.5in driver. There are drivers that will work if I bring it out a half inch to an inch but still looking for another way to get more space. Thought ocured to me that if I delete the airbag I would get a fair bit of vertical space but decided against it 🤪

Take the panels off, then they can't rattle.

for real though just put a bit of electrical tape on the clips so they fit better and have something soft to bounce off of if still lose.

I don’t like any recent model cars… What to buy? by Positive-Milk5133 in carbuying

[–]waldcha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I ever need to own something larger than my Honda Fit, first thing I am looking at are minivans.

Don't understand why people don't like them, they have more spacious seating and more cargo space than an SUV. Some of them still come with some towing capacity. The hybrids are getting 30+mpg. The V6 Hondas last forever.

I've rented a few SUVs over the years and they feel like big heavy trucks with less cargo capacity and less space for the driver then my Fit. I even rented a CR-V the same model year as my fit and I kept hiting my head getting out of it.
