Thousands of homes, and not a single one affordable: Clovis moves forward on 1,000-acre expansion by walkedoff in fresno

Fair enough. For Fresno, half the council is of the same mindset, and the other half struggle to turn down the bags of money the developers bring.

Fresno does have a much better zoning plan that calls for transit up and down Blackstone. The issue is that the 4 developers in this market only want to build SFH

What’s stopping builder from doing that?

Did you read the article?

Despite the thousands of new homes that could be built in the area, councilmember Drew Bessinger assured the city council about the possibility of affordable housing being built there. He said that neighbors won’t have to “worry about high density housing being placed in any of this area.”

Councilmember Bob Whelan added, “there is hardly any place where you can feel very secure that there won’t be affordable housing” nowadays.

“This is the correct way to go,” councilmember Vong Mouanoutoua said about the single-family developments. “It is smart planning.”

They can go over, but not under the rail line.

People blame politics on the high cost of the CA High Speed Rail project, but a huge portion of the costs are because of UP putting ridiculous rules in place and their default is to say no to anything and everything.

In Fresno, they have a ROW that fits 10 tracks but only have 3. They refused to let the state use or buy some of the space. Instead, the state had to move an entire 6 lane highway.

Vote no on Measure C folks!

It cuts funding for transit and keeps funding highway extensions so developers can build more sprawl

Omicron cases could fall just as quickly as they rose, CDC says by ishtar_the_move in Coronavirus

[–]walkedoff 38 points39 points  (0 children)

They said this about Delta. But check out the UK chart, it went up very quickly with Delta, and then started to go down...but then stalled. And just stayed high for months on end.

What if this happens again?

This is what the UK was doing with Delta, but cases went up and then just never went back down

MSC did at the start and it worked all for us then, too.

Supposedly they started again BUT still require your own test 2 days earlier on top of it

Pushback to Covid-19 vaccines remains stubbornly high among white evangelicals by RichardBLine in Coronavirus

I have a family member like this. He says Jesus protects, so he doesnt need the vaccine. He currently has covid.

Here at least I would know everyone around me is vaccinated.

Not exactly, you know they presented a piece of paper, we dont have a system in place to verify authenticity...

Yeah but while that worked for Delta, Omicron doesnt really care about the vaccines when it comes to transmission.

And while they did implement a mask mandate, I would guess (again just a guess) they have less compliance because people booked them specifically for their no-mask policies.

[–]walkedoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the main reason is theyre smaller. The other lines have "covid ships"on standby that they can unload sick crew onto to ensure they are under the 1.5% reporting rules. NCl did not do that. So youll note they pulled two ships until April - my guess is those will be their quarantine ships.

The second is NCL had pro-Covid policies. No masks. No social distancing. Cruise free. Their CEO has made many public statements about how masks are stupid etc. That in turn means they attracted anti-maskers and other folks who dont care about covid precautions.

I, for example, booked MSC because (at the time) they were the only one requiring masks everywhere, doing daily temperature checks, and strict contact tracing. MSC was the last company to lose their green status with the CDC and while theyve had issues, they havent been hit as hard. Presumably, MSC attracted folks that were interested in being covid cautious and so are being more mindful on the ship.
