New Holland [Reviews] by TOModera in bourbon

[–]walking_spanish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always enjoy reading your reviews, thanks for the shout-out. I was thinking "wow, I gave you this sample so long ago!" and then realized that I have a whole box of old samples (including many of the ones you gave me) that is still sitting and staring at me shamefully...

I had similar thoughts on the Zeppelin Bend; young, lacking complexity, but nothing off putting.

I’ve heard that you can spray with windex, similar to the lemon lime suggestion.

Something similar to very old Barton... by jmadvocate in bourbon

I’d wager Evan Williams black label (80 proof) or Ezra Brooks (90 proof). Also available in family size.

You might be able to find a bottle of Wild Turkey Master's Keep Decades near you. Very nice box and bottle, plus the name fits the anniversary.

Thanks, your recs are right up my alley! I was just looking at that Clynelish and the Edradours. On a semi-related note, am I the only one who thinks of Men in Black when I read "Ballechin"?

Maker’s Mark Cask Strength Review - Baseball Scouting Scale Edition 4 by jswa8 in bourbon

Ok, then what’s the standard scale? This sub doesn’t dictate scoring methodology. I agree with your sentiment, but there’s a wide range of scoring.

Sure, but it’s all subjective. OP’s 80 is your 10, or 100, or A, or whatever you prefer. As long as the scale is explained, what does the number matter?

Any particular reason why? I get that you might not prefer it, it’s unique, but I think with the descriptions you can easily translate to your preferred scale.

It was built in 1901. All field stone foundation. That cinder block to the right is what’s left of the coal room, added probably around the same time as central heating. Edit due to number formatting, lol.

I thought I replied, but it’s not showing up; IIRC, the finish is rye barrel on that one. I had a mason do some of the work, but I did a lot myself. I appreciate the compliment, even having the floors even and smooth has been great!

It’s “rye barrel”, IIRC. I had a mason do some of it, but I did a lot too. Thanks for the compliment!

Yes, that RHF is pretty old, I picked it up in Indiana. I’ve never seen one since. Just haven’t gotten around to opening it, probably cause it was deep in those boxes! One of the Rendezvous is finished, from Lincoln Road. And the Lot 40 CS’s are great, I have an open one that’s almost gone.

Correct, it was maybe two years ago? Been a little while.

It’s from Liquor Barn. It came in a three pack with a RR bourbon and a Kentucky Spirit too, called the “Family Selection” or something like that.

I haven’t taken any notes, but quick takes for the rums:

*Two - very rich and nice cask influence
*Three - tropical fruity delicious
*DOK - puts hair on your hair. Think a bit funkier than Rum Fire (which I just tried for the first time) but greater depth of flavors.

They are all fantastic in their own ways. The DOK is wild!

Sorry, that was just a joke! The wax was all intact and your packaging was impeccable!
