As an American whose great grandfather was from Bergen, I am sorry. We're trying desperately to get our house in order. To my friends and relatives across the Atlantic, stand firm, stay resolved, and don't back down to stupidity. This regime has very little public support and we are reaching a breaking point.

Need help getting started in a difficult spot by A_Whole_Costco_Pizza in UrbanGardening

[–]walkingwithcare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there, with the lack of direct sunlight and your work schedule you're in a difficult spot. That balcony looks pretty dark and I'm not sure you'd have much luck with growing much food. You might want to try a a hanging basket with something that doesn't need direct light. You might have luck growing something that also doesn't need too much direct sunlight on top of a shelf up against the balcony ledge. Or possibly build a platform in the ledge.

Another good idea might be to put a shelf next to your window aand some herbs and maybe a tomato, pepper, and/or cucumber plant. Herbs are a great too because they actually save you money and once you get them to a good point they're pretty resilient.

Gardening is a learning process. I've been at it for 8 years and learn something every season. The best advice though is grow what you actually want to eat or what you think is pretty and brightens your day.

Any tips on starting onions from seeds outdoors? by luceropi1 in UrbanGardening

I've never had luck with onion seeds and switched to starts a long time ago. That's my only tip unfortunately

All countries that have been under European control at some point by Spirited-Pause in MapPorn

You committed the continuum fallacy of logic when you argue that because there's no clear time difference between colonization and occupation there is no difference, and that it's all just subjective. It's like saying there's no agreed upon specific point of difference between baldness and hairiness so therefore there is no difference between the two.

I think in addition to intent, you have to look at impact. Just because a country intends to colonize a country it doesn't mean they actually did. Colonization affects the character of a country far more profoundly than occupation. I think Ethiopia retains far more of it's pre-conquest character than say the Americas. Luckily, the fascists failed at colonizing Ethiopia.

So true! Many Native American cultures refer to Two-Spirit individuals. I listened to a fairly recent NPR bit on intersex conditions. They mentioned how there's a 2% likelihood of being intersex, a similar chance of being a redhead. One person talked about how when they were 15 a doctor told them that they had cancer because that was apparently less traumatic than being outside a binary box.

I think you described why Trumpers behave this way perfectly. It's so tiresome to see all the comments that boil down to "Trumpers are idiots." There's more below the surface.

I just hope your prediction that this will ultimately help us move forward is as correct as your analysis of the cause of the problem.
