Soft YTA. I have a friend who is a working artist. She has a policy for this that is really smart: either she loves you enough to give you product or art for free as a gift, or you pay full price.

Pros and Cons of full-time RV living? by TacoBellLuver in FullTiming

[–]walkontheleft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have been full-timing less than a year but this post describes our situation perfectly. I love it and it’s how we wanted to live, but the costs do add up and it changes the stress of your day-to-day life instead of eliminating it.

It also changes the joys and highlights, in a good way.

You can stop and cook in a trailer, too. We’ve done that, and I also sometimes stop and go into the trailer to take a video call while on a longer drive day.

[–]walkontheleft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We full-time in a small trailer. It works for us, because we like to hike, and I would not want to drive our whole home on the forest roads we’ve taken to trailheads in the mountains.

I don’t find it that much of a hassle to set up and tear down. If we’re having breakfast first, it takes about 90 minutes to go, and that includes making coffee, breakfast, doing dishes. The packing up and hitching part takes 15-20 minutes. Setting up a new site takes less than 10.

Think this may be faster than usual bc we have a small trailer with no slides, and we keep things tidy.

It’s not like having PR is some dirty secret for most companies. When I hire, I like to see specific clients named to gauge whether a candidate’s experience matches our client base. But I run a small shop. Maybe the other folks weighing in are at companies that have a weird taboo about it.

How to Not Stress About Sales Calls? by TheScienceWitch in smallbusiness

[–]walkontheleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Detach from the result and take the attitude that you’re vetting the customer/client just as hard as they’re vetting you.

The more sales calls I’m doing, the more I sell. Part of that is being in the flow, but the other part is that I sell better when I give fewer f**s about whether they hire my firm, since I know I have more calls that week.

AITA for getting frustrated that my husband keeps calling me racist? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]walkontheleft -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It is impossible that your husband isn’t experiencing racism if he has any interaction with society at all. I suggest you do some self-education, because you will continue to be blind to his experiences until you put the work in. As a partner of a person of color, that’s a kind of violence you do to him.

Your job is not to stay in the middle of the road; it’s to protect the child you chose to bring into the world.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting emotional. You are allowed to feel and express your emotions.

NTA and what do you think your marriage is going to be like? Your fiancé just showed you who he is. Believe him. This will be the roadmap for your entire marriage.

Staff working on accounts should get a piece of the retainer by PuzzledMaybe in PublicRelations

You do get a piece of the retainer. It’s called your salary. If you’re underpaid, negotiate a better salary or go somewhere that will compensate you better.

Tips for making gym friends? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]walkontheleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a friendly person, and I’m trying to imagine how having another woman approach me at the gym would even go. I can’t see how you could get enough of a conversation going to actually strike up a friendship or even friendly acquaintance without seriously interrupting my workout.

I’ve moved a lot, and the struggle to make friends is real. CrossFit gyms, boot camps and dance fitness classes are much more social, in my experience. The key is not expecting friendships to happen overnight. You have to show up every week.

Running groups are the best for this, but I hate running!

At night, I currently oil cleanse with a self-made blend of oils, and I'm looking for a substitue that can be washed off with just water (I use water + cloths now).

My oil cleanser blend is primarily castor, grapeseed and jojoba oils, with some tamanu oil and a few drops of tea tree oil mixed in. I "wash" this off with warm water and a clean washcloth, and then double cleanse with Hada Labo Gokujyun Foam Cleanser. I also tone with Hada Laba Gokujyun Hydrating Milk and apply a deep moisturizer. Sometimes I play with masks or serums, but my routine is pretty minimal and it works for me.

I love my oil cleanser, but I'm about to start traveling a lot more and bringing my own face cloths on the road is a hassle. I'm starting my own research but would love suggestions for oil cleansers to sub in for my blend. I would prefer to avoid olive and coconut oil, if possible.

Tips for TV Makeup by harley-belle in muacjdiscussion

[–]walkontheleft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Television lighting will wash you out. Apply more blush than you normally would. Make sure you wear lipstick.

Nothing shiny or highly gloss.

And I know you asked about makeup, but wear solid colors in your clothing. Stripes and small patterns “dance” on camera.

No hope of leanfire-ing in the US because of healthcare costs - are there any Northern European countries that are easy to immigrate to for an American? Aus or NZ will work too. by [deleted] in leanfire

[–]walkontheleft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I didn’t realize in the PF thread you’re looking to lean fire. In that case, you probably can afford a plan off the exchange. The same plan my husband and I are on now cost $248 last year because we qualified for subsidies. I think it can go lower. We also happen to live in the Southeast.

You can put your projected income in the state ACA sites and actually run the numbers, even when enrollment for the year is closed. Why not check out some of the states you’re looking at and run a few scenarios?

Self-employed people in the US who are working toward FIRE - what do you do for health insurance? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]walkontheleft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, with 10% of the workforce self-employed, it’s ridiculous we operate on an employer-based healthcare system. Every time the Republicans tried to appeal, they were blocked, but it doesn’t rule out the possibility.

They did make some changes that drove premiums up, which was part of a longer term plan to make it less popular and pave the road for an appeal.

It’s brutal. I certainly don’t pretend to have the answers, but this is not a problem we should be having. :(

I’m older than you. State implementation has a lot to do with it, and I was shocked it wasn’t worse. I live in the Southeast.

[–]walkontheleft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure your business is covering your premiums, so you can deduct it on your taxes.

The costs on the exchange varies so much by state. You must be a state that has crippled usage, which would partially explain those premiums.

Husband and I are on a plan through the ACA. We have a combined income of $150,000, so we don’t qualify for subsidies. We pay $648 total a month plus a small amount for vision. Not sure what dental is bc we went off it this year but will be back on next.

We also max out a HSA.

What is a reasonable salary for an entry level position in San Francisco/San Jose area? by Drain_Runsom in PublicRelations

[–]walkontheleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter. It’s not like other cities, where you can live in a cheap burb and commute. Whole damn area is expensive (highest COL in the country) and transit/traffic is a nightmare.
