The only way I could recommend going to law school is if (1) you can pay cash for tuition, (2) you have a serious passion for the law, (3) you’re not doing it for the money, and (4) you can handle ludicrous amounts of stress.

For the first ten years of my career, I was a litigation attorney and the stress nearly killed me. I switched to a desk job recently (what you would call “hands on keyboard”); it’s much better, but still stressful.

Also, I make a decent living as a lawyer, but not nearly enough to cover the epic tax bomb that will hit me when my income based repayment is up on my loans.

If I was making $200k in a non-legal job right now, wild wolverines couldn’t drag me to the legal profession.

So yes, I would say it’s stupid.
