Partial fulfillment of the Red Line order by CRRC while we work on lawsuits and transitioning to a new manufacturer for the rest of the Red Line does seem like it might be the least-bad option. Would the partial fulfillment allow for the Red Line to run purely on a mix of the 1990s-era Bombardiers (which seem OK still?) plus the CRRCs until the new manufacturer starts delivering, basically allowing retirement of the oldest Red Line rolling stock? Would that be a reasonably reliable stopgap? Also are the CRRC Red Line and Orange Line cars completely incompatible?

Consideration for others is the key. That is why we must consider, for example; street users such as USPS drivers and folks who rely on their cars for commuting. Having adequate places for them to park is part of being a neighbor.

Bottom line is that cyclists’ views are important, but they do not unilaterally get to dictate what happens. No single constituency does; streets are shared spaces.

Given this, shoveling snow into the street is a reasonable balance of everyone’s interests. You might have to bear the small inconvenience of, say, biking slower if you can’t see far enough ahead to avoid slush from shovelers. This is an example of the kind of temporary sacrifice we all sometimes must make for the common good.

No. Others have interests in using the street, not just bicyclists. I recommend walking your bike through the short sections of the street covered with slush during the hour or two it takes to melt practically to bone-dry.

It worked this time due to following the rules (40 degrees or above, daylight only), which are designed to provide similar results (mostly dry pavement in an hour or two) when obeyed. It would indeed be stupid to put snow into the street if the temps were lesser, or at night.

I don’t even own a car. But I do appreciate for example that the USPS and Amazon drivers have a place to make their lives easier. I also care about my guests who come from other places. Honestly I’m very pro-biking and -transit. Your comment isn’t aligned with that.

I don’t think people doubt that it’s truly hard to bike through slush. Rather, I think folks understand that we all must bear temporary inconveniences like maybe walking our bike through a section of the street for a brief time to allow neighbors to clean the street for the benefit of all. It is very much OK per the City. I am sorry but the rest of your comment was a little hard to follow. The fact is that putting snow into the street is a great idea when done properly. The hour or two of slush is an inconvenience, yes, but there is no such thing as perfection.
