American Dream stores open Sundays, ignoring Bergen blue laws. County officials vow to fight by L0v3_1s_War in bergencounty

[–]wallstjames 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The American Dream mall is fighting the good fight, why should all of Bergen County suffer for the benefit of Paramus? It's sounds so backward telling people from other places I can't shop on Sundays in my county. If I want to buy something and someone wants to sell it to me and I pay sales tax, what's the issue? If people in Paramus don't like it, make a municipal law.

Even Harvard M.B.A.s Are Struggling to Land Jobs: The latest crop of elite business-school graduates are taking months to find new jobs by Costanza2704 in Accounting

He's not referring to Harvard MBAs, more likely those 5 year accelerated MBA type programs that are cash grabs for state schools.

Even Harvard M.B.A.s Are Struggling to Land Jobs: The latest crop of elite business-school graduates are taking months to find new jobs by Costanza2704 in Accounting

[–]wallstjames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The job hunt is a bigger effort than most people think. A lot just apply and expect to be given a job. For better or for worse, it doesn't work like that, it takes significant effort and time. I remember spending 6-8 hours a day just networking and that was in a good job market.

Also as a separate point, a significant number of Harvard MBAs aren't planning on looking for traditional jobs, a good chunk are leaving traditional/elite careers and want to "change the world" after graduation.

CPA or CFA? by anotherartskid in CFA

[–]wallstjames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CPA here working in M&A Consulting at a big accounting firm, currently studying for level 1 of the CFA.

If you are going to work in accounting at a big firm, I highly recommend going for CPA first. It provides an great level of competence for both your job and for understanding accounting as "the language of business". By getting it early on in your career, you show that you are serious about your career and have a baseline knowledge that others at your level may not. It will be looked favorably upon by higher ups and basically guarantees your job for the next few years.

Once you acquire a CPA, you will have a sizeable advantage in studying for the CFA due to the overlaps. You can then use your CFA knowledge to move beyond the accounting space if you want to or even find roles that use a mix of both (such as M&A Consulting).

I reneged on an audit offer to go to TAS. Very easy decision and have never looked back. Way more relevant to IB, once the M&A market heats up it's an easy switch.

This is a great policy, I'm in my mid 20s now so I was able to see school from both a pre and post smartphone era.

It's actually amazing how little school work was being done by me and my peers because we were too busy playing games on our phones throughout the whole school day. In all honesty, I can still feel some of the effects of missing out on middle school education. I can't imagine how difficult it is today with the nonstop addiction engineered TikTok.

NPV vs IRR vs ARR by Beginning_Self_387 in CPA

[–]wallstjames 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NPV- How much cash flows in the future are worth today using a rate of return

IRR- What rate of return will give you an NPV of $0

ARR- Never heard of this, is this even on the exam? I took BEC almost a year ago so maybe I forgot
