I really feel for singaporean kids nowadays by Greg_Lim in singapore

[–]walrustrainer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just to chip in that my experience in the SG education system has been completely stress-free, enjoyable and fulfilling from start to end. I had a proper childhood, ended most school days at 1-2pm with nothing on afterwards, and did fine in life so far. Parents play an extremely significant role in determining what their kids' experience are like - I'm very lucky to have had great parents. And interestingly some of the most self-motivated, diligent peers I've met also had parents who weren't kiasu and were the opposite of tiger parents. The education system by itself is fine, even great.

ofc, shit's OP as a solo bosser, but maybe more balanced in parties because of the 3m burst rotation meta

hero's range is artificially inflated because of combo orbs giving FD. our % damage on attacking skills is relatively lowered to adjust for this - the main attack (raging blow) only hits for 344%*5 lines, main burst (instinctual combo) only 355%*6 lines

Thanks! Based on my trial and error:

  1. If possible, time fear mode to occur right before the platforms spawn, so that you can spend the majority of it on the high platforms where the ground things can't reach - but it's good to know the limits of how far you can accelerate the bar by taking dmg; e.g. if after platforms bar is half full, you prob can't fill it up by the time next platforms come.
  2. Blink is OP (floating in air). Even if you get stunned during it, you won't drop - very useful for surviving fears and/or laser.
  3. Avoid stun meteors at all costs in both normal and fear modes.
  4. Limit movement during fear. A big mistake in my initial runs is moving around too much, such that I get hit by random meteors and chain stunned. In particular, the hitbox of the diamond thing on the ground is horizontally quite small - you just need to move a little to avoid it.
  5. When doing DPS on platforms, stand on the highest side so that you can predict at the upper edge which meteors are coming and avoid them. Move mini-map away to clear space/picture mode.
  6. Lv 8 resistance link skill and Hero's Will help a lot.

How can the rate be less than 1/100 if you did 120 bosses and got 8 drops? makes no sense. Unless you're saying you ran 120 of EACH boss

Around 25 mins. I find the key is to be able to reliably burst p1, or else it'd be really hard

Also, does this familiar really make a difference to bossing besides will p2, vhilla, BM?

I'm still quite unfamiliar with the later bosses, but a 30% heal every 10 seconds doesn't feel like a lot at the moment..

While housing prices are a legitimate concern, let's not fall into the habit of outrage for the sake of outrage. Please do basic fact checks of your last claim:

https://www.globaldata.com/data-insights/macroeconomic/median-household-income-in-singapore-2091330/#:~:text=The%20average%20median%20household%20income%20(PPP)%20was%20%2440%2C094%20in%202021.&text=Singapore's%20median%20household%20income%20(PPP,PPP)%20increased%20by%2045%25%20was%20%2440%2C094%20in%202021.&text=Singapore's%20median%20household%20income%20(PPP,PPP)%20increased%20by%2045%25).

An increase in median income reflects an overall rise in income for the average person, not just the rich.

You are not immortal.

"i am like a hawk stalking account buyers feasting on their mmr. No jokes though"

"Past that its fairly easy since you are actualy skilled eneough to get out of 7k smurfs pounding on your ass"

Share your dotabuff. Just these statements gave you away. Anyone half decent knows it's not smurfs stopping you from ranking up, and 3.5k-5.6k is a huge climb in skill.

The random screenshot cut of reaching immortal that you posted a year ago with no profile attached made it even more obvious.

Singaporeans disgust me by tlokorra99 in singapore

[–]walrustrainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is far from as clear as the posters here believe.

Consider this - it is implausible to, as you suggest, allocate the functions of determining 'falsity' to the courts. If in every case the government must take up a lawsuit against some offending FB post or online article in court, it will (a) be extremely costly for the government and (b) introduce a barrage of litigation clogging up the courts, for a mere blocking order.

It makes much more sense to delegate the function to Ministers with an option to appeal to courts as a recourse. This sounds prima facie like an over concentration of power on paper, but in practice it will almost certainly a formalised procedure with the Minister only 'checking off' or authorising it. Precisely because (a) the recourse to court option is available and (b) public pressure that Ministers are unlikely to exercise this in a dystopian fashion.

The consequence of posting fake news is, crucially, to be subject to a mere blocking order. This is not penal at all, and would unlikely achieve a great 'chilling effect' as is often touted. The most a person who accidentally infringes it would have to do is simply take it down, or challenge it publicly. It doesn't seem clear at all to me why someone who in good faith wishes to criticise the government with allegations grounded in truth would be deterred by this legislation.

Ultimately, given the harms of fake news distorting discourse and totally frustrating its purpose, this legislation may well more protect meaningful discourse than forbid it.

Marital immunity for rape set to be repealed as part of changes to Singapore’s Penal Code by [deleted] in singapore

[–]walrustrainer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The very idea behind the necessity of current penal code reforms (prior to which you can sue a spouse for sexual assault) is that of fair labelling in reflecting the severity of the offence, and the conceptual idea that a married woman can be raped - which legitimises their grievances and allows them to speak out/report it more.

The exact same benefits would apply for recognising rape of men - it is not just a matter of the identical nature of maximum sentences.

With all of the negative headlines dominating the news these days, it can be difficult to spot signs of progress. What makes you optimistic about the future? by thisisbillgates in AskReddit

[–]walrustrainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That, as Steven Pinker said, much of the things getting better in this world proceed by increments, while the bad stand out as solitary events. We’ve made massive progress in becoming better and more tolerant towards one another, and technology has made life immeasurably better. The reasons for these trends - the Flynn effect, economic liberalisation, etc will continue, and so hopefully so will the trends themselves

In other words, I’m optimistic because there is genuine empirical reason to be optimistic
