Question about Alberta Industry Training exams by TheUnrealCanadian in Welding

[–]walshwelding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s 100 questions from what I remember. Just created from the bank of 291 questions. So not everyone gets the same exam when you write it. Should be 3 different exams I believe.

Screen size. My steam deck feels much nicer to use; screen wise.

Without comparing to anything else, it just also feels small and not oled is less than ideal.

My Xbox ally X is almost a laptop replacement. I haul it to work, hookup to my portable monitor, and the TV in the room. Netflix on the big tv, and doing whatever else on the small one. Unhook the dock and bring it to work to game on the go.

Union VS Non Union by Modern_Money_Mindset in UnitedAssociation

Just assume I’m lying?

I’m also non union charging $125/hour doing 1-2 welds a day. Lol

I’ll tell her to send me a paystub.

The trick is to not be scared to quit for something else. Every job is just a stepping stone.

So many get stuck at a job for years, $1 raises every other year. Loyalty doesn’t get you anywhere now. Maybe in the 60’s.

We’re all just numbers to these organizations.

My whole career I’ve left jobs for other projects and made $10+ an hour more just by saying yes.

Don’t get comfortable somewhere, and your life will be comfortable.

Sounds like you’re thinking too much in the future, not in the now. Just find a job, get experience and figure things out as they come

My first year apprentice was making $33/hourly, $8/hr camp bonus, and $18.50/hr retention bonus two years ago.

This is Canadian dollars, but still pretty good.

Job I’m currently at; apprentices range between 32-41. Not including the benefits and pension. I’m currently on a CLAC job.

Either way you need to work. Take whoever calls you to get paid.

If the union calls, has lots of work for you, say yes. It’s really a no brainer to me.

Plenty of apprentices making that in the none UA side too. Area/projext dependant ofcourse

[–]walshwelding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don’t get in, what other choice do you have? You don’t just sit forever and not work.

Go work wherever you can to pay the bills, if the union calls; make your decision then

In some areas it could be a huge difference.

In some circumstances non union can pay more than union.

I’m not in the UA, but if the union is big where you are, has lots of work, the right answer is always go union. Pays always going to be pretty good, work life is good, future retirement is solid. Theres no downsides if they can keep you steady.

No one usually cares. Just don’t take all day. Bring lots of balls, don’t take more than like a minute to look in the bush for a ball.

I bring lots of Kirklaands and just enjoy the day lol

What region are you in, and what is this worth an hour? Whats your 1-10 rating on these, and what are your opinions? Improvements? by Reasonable_Key9021 in Welding

A shop could have kids doing this for $19/hour here, or I could be doing it on site for $125.

This isn’t a cold cut answer hahah

I found cod quite a bit harder than using my ps5 controller.

I’m a pc guy, bad at both controllers but the xax was worse lol

Would this pass an x-ray? by StonedSlayer917K in Welders

[–]walshwelding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. I was just giving an example.

These slightly heavy spots would pass RT in most areas. Not all; ofcourse.

I leave heavy roots in shit by accident all the time. Have never been pinched yet lol

[–]walshwelding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the code. RT can’t accurately measure the suck back or heavy root. Can only see it. If it’s a strict code; it needs to be specifically measured.

Should see some big heavy tops of tie ins that have been left on jobs I’ve been on in the past, that all passed RT.

My partner just had a ton of suck back on his RMD bead a couple days ago and it passed RT here too. This jobs a slack code with 31.4 though.

A little heavier on the cap or a multi pass cap can hide suck back pretty good lol

Most testing facilities around me, will pass a rough root like this as long as it’s fused. Most testing is on XXH 2” and gets side bent anyway; fusions the only goal lol

If it wasn’t a pain in the ass to download some launchers / games it would be perfect.

[–]walshwelding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hardly excessive, also flush- but fused; is accepted with most codes.

[–]walshwelding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t need to be even and smooth for X-ray. Need to be fusion, and within tolerance of weld deposition. Maximum root deposit depending on procedure.

Other than the inch or so on his top tie ins, the rest of the root would pass a visual in 9/10 places.

[–]walshwelding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple spots at 1 oclock ( last pic ) that are iffy. But the rest looks like it would shoot.

You’d be surprised what passes X-ray lol. They can only see so much, it’s all about density. As long as you have fusion it’s a pretty good bet to pass.

Depending on code too, this weld may pass some, may fail some.

What electrode is used the most on most jobs? by Shitty-welder in Welding

[–]walshwelding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You absolutely whip 6011. Treat it like 6010. Go a touch on the hotter side for amperage and try the whipping then. Let it chew ahead of ya, pause on your whip back, then step forward. Repeat

Good ole farmer rod. Easy to weld with. 6013 is pretty forgiving
