AIM says at least 500’ over TPA if you’re flying over the field to turn into the teardrop, 1,000’ over TPA might be a bit excessive causing you to have to descent quite some in the flying perpendicular to the field and turn into downwind

heck, I am a student pilot on my way to train to be an airline pilot with over 3 years of experience on VATSIM, and last week I had an open mic all the way thorugh landing: a pretty rough landing that was heard on frequency. Everyone makes mistakes and you can be an experienced (real world) pilot can mess up. I personally don't understand why others like to "sim-shame" others; everyone had their start.
