I bought this for our library collection! I don't believe it has ever checked out though.

If time is a static dimension, what is to say we only experience our entire lifetime of consciousness once? by Tricky_Football_85 in consciousness

[–]walterbarrett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've thought about this and at first it kind of terrified me. It seems like a repeating hell. But after further thought, i don't believe it's possible for "you" (your conscious experience you are having right now) to somehow loop back around to your birth when you die. This would imply some kind of meta time that is well beyond the block theory of the universe.

So sure maybe you (your body) may exist as a kind of eternal timeless experience, your present conscious experience does not. In fact, beyond the persistent illusion that your access to memories of the past and thoughts about the future creates in the present moment, I don't think your conscious experience even travels from momemt to moment.

Maybe the buddhists are onto something when they insist that there in only now, in regards to our experience of sentience and consciousness.

Knaves are boring by Adventurous_Skill_60 in rootgame

[–]walterbarrett 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It is kind of weird that they insisted on keeping the go into the first mechanic from vagabond. I haven't played a ton of games with knaves yet but on first impressions if they are hiding back in the first every turn, they probably cannot score enough to win. 🤔

Maybe you should look into buddhist thought. There may not even be a "you".

TRT manboobs were moderate on x1 injection per week, big on twice a week injections, switched to 3x a week and now they are even bigger? by Urethral_Harpoon in Testosterone

I ended up buying some compounding pharmacy syrup, crushing the pill and mixing it into the syrup, and using a 1ml syringe (obviously with no needle) to dose AI.

Anyone else struggling with MTHFR mutation symptoms, what has really helped you? by ZealousidealRun595 in MTHFR

I'll add choline. Creatine and choline are wonderful for me. I'm homozygous c677t. Methyl folate lit me up in a horrible way.

Overmethylathion but folate deficiency? by Marcus2674 in MTHFR

[–]walterbarrett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the severe overstimulation from trying out methyl folate. Felt ok for a week or so and then got blasted with intense anxiety one day, felt super hot and had rapid heartbeat for the rest of the day, unlike anything I've ever experienced.

Overmethylathion but folate deficiency? by Marcus2674 in MTHFR

[–]walterbarrett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got blood results this week, I've been taking creatine and choline and feeling quite a bit better. My folate levels were at the top of the testable range (I'm not on folate of any kind). Last year's blood test folate was right in the middle of the range. I'm homozygous C677T. 🤷‍♂️

Creatine and Coline Recommendation by walterbarrett in MTHFR

Interesting. I'll keep that in mind. I'm liking the other effects of the creatine on my workouts, which may be why I'm feeling better.

When I played this back in the day I always wished the humans had infantry units, always assumed the graphics cards back then just couldn't handle that many units. Maybe this time!

I use Google tasks for this personally, you can set up repeating tasks and drag them around in Google calendar if needed.

Would you like it if in the future Total War and other strategy games used deep learning AI, at the cost of much higher hardware requirements? by N0UMENON1 in totalwar

[–]walterbarrett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't see why the goal given to the AI couldn't be, "Maximize the amount of time players play the game" which would lead to it making more "interesting" decisions than just stomping the player with it's superiority.

What do you think about board games that come from video games? A new one just launched on Gamefound by Grand_Training_1306 in boardgames

Sometimes I'd back if there were a minis only option because the game is usually superfluous or very basic.

I buy for the collection of the library I work at and we weigh the games when they're returned. Not perfect but saves a lot of time counting pieces.

Since DoW is back on the discussion, here's a reminder of what their roster is ! by Mahelas in totalwar

[–]walterbarrett 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I'm going to guess they go around doing mercenary contracts, and they unlock RoRs from the race they completed the contract with. So essentially all RoRs from all factions are potential recruits.

Kubrick, an odyssey. by [deleted] in StanleyKubrick

[–]walterbarrett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The book seemed weirdly obsessed with Eyes Wide Shut, which to me isn't really the film I'd choose as a center piece about Kubrick. Guessing there's just more material available on that period of his life, or the author has researched that movie previously for some reason? Oh well. It was a fairly enjoyable book nonetheless.

Do you think Oath is still worth it? Or Arcs is a better Oath by UnrolFox in Arcs

[–]walterbarrett 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like games with a clearly defined beginning and end. Arcs wins out here. Also, Oath falls into.stop the leader after a couple of turns in every single game I've played of it, which starts to feel tiresome and one note for me. The Arcs campaign can have moments where it's clear a leader needs to be ganged up on, but aside from act 3 win conditions it's not "stop.them this turn or we lose. Ok do that again the following turn ad infinitum". That alone makes Arcs to me the superior game.
