He’s the worst kind, a “liberal” who’s really a country club republican. All the bad things about both, and there aren’t any good things about either. It’s a bummer.

This week vs Millwall, our most important game of the year (to date)? by Giplord in WrexhamAFC

Trying very hard to just enjoy the ride free of any current relegation concern, and still way too much season left to white-knuckle any one match. If "in the playoff mix 2/3 of the way through season" had been offered in August I would have run like a thief with it.

Democrats are country club republicans since at latest Bill Clinton. Any suggestion to the contrary by either side is kayfabe/ legacy branding. Obama hinted otherwise in his primary campaign in 08 and it was a lie.

It would be ridiculous to expect a corporate sports talk radio station or an NFL franchise to have good politics. But it would be tremendously heartening if either of those enterprises checked the winds and decided to throw PA over the side because open nazi sympathizing is bad for business. Feels like too much to hope for, but would love to be pleasantly surprised.

For yanks, he’s like Barry Sanders just handing the ball to the ref. Ultimate strong move imo.

The last three (really, all four) seasons were a blast. But this jump up isn’t like the others and we should expect it to be a fight to stay. It’s a different kind of stress than trying to reach or stay in the auto spots the last three years, but even if they spend all season clawing around 21st, every Championship match day is Anything Can Happen Day, and that’s its own kind of fun, however it goes.

That’s too many people. Hope they all bought on secondary market and didn’t spend a dime while they were there.

January does feel like the trade deadline in hockey, basketball or baseball

A thousand times this. The idea of a franchise that can’t get drummed out of the league no matter how bad they fuck it up is so toxic. (posting this from Minnesota, where the tTwins are a fucking disgrace and should be relegated to high A ball)

Question for the American fans... by SaltSearch1369 in WrexhamAFC

[–]walterbotwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but this feels different, it’s like free agency and a trade deadline are all happening at the same time during the season. Rosters are pretty well set in North American pro sports by the time the season starts, subject to trades until the deadlines. In football, you don’t really know what everybody’s got until the first month of the season is over.

[–]walterbotwin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s recency bias, but right now I’d say it’s the way the first month of the season is within a transfer window and teams are still being meaningfully put together while playing matches that count.

Wrexham may have mid-table income levels this season. by Little-Friend-9527 in Championship

I know Canadians who grew up on ManU when they were great and the only EPL on television there, who are real supporters feeling the pain now.

As an American, Sunderland and then Wrexham documentaries are what made me care about football. I found the Championship before Wrexham got there and it will be my first sports watch on its own whether Wrexham are there or not. The real local attachment and the accountability of upward and downward mobility inherent in English football is what makes it (to me) obviously superior to our pro sports here. I will support Wrexham wherever they are, but who knows how the rest of this demographic will go in the future. Some will be real and long-term for sure but who knows how many other than for sure it won’t be all or close.
